Rastan. The 1st game is the most memorable and iconic. Excellent gameplay, graphics, music. A complete experience. The 2nd game, Rastan Saga 2, just feels so cheap and cheesy; a sloppy seconds afterthought. Warrior Blade:Rastan Episode 3 is actually pretty cool, with multiplayer and an accessible difficulty level, but just didnt' have the level of release and availability as the first game.
Parappa the Rapper. Parappa 2 didn't quite make the same level of fanfare, as it was more of the same game. I don't know if offshoot Umjammer Lammy is as quotable as Parappa the Rapper. I give it up to the original.
River City Ransom/Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari While there are many games in this series, a good amount of them are Japan-only. Of all the 8-bit Nekketsu games, this particular one got various ports/rereleases. And while I do enjoy Renegade, Super Dodgeball, Nintendo World Cup, Crash 'n the Boys:Street Challenge, and Nekketsu Koha Kunio-Kun, it is River City Ransom that has a most lovable gameplay set-up that is so cool to come back to.

I mean, Parasite Eve comes to mind, though I never played the 3rd one so I might be wrong here.
Oh, and Alundra.
And while I absolutely do not agree with what I’m about to say now, I sometimes feel like some people consider Suikoden II the only game in the series really worth playing. Is it a one hit wonder series? I don’t think so, and I especially think 5 had a lot of promise after a few lackluster entries. But do people - outside of the most passionate fanbase - consider the series as a whole that great? I dunno.

I've only played the first two Suikoden so far but have a small preference for S1.

It's probably fair to say that II is generally considered better but not to the point that I isn't worth playing.

Suikoden 1 is a great breezy short rpg. Suikoden 2 is incredible to Suikoden 1 is definitely worth playing and a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun with 3 as well but not sure how it's held up as I was deep in suikoden fanboyism when I played it, I've read it's very rushed. Suikoden 5 was a return to form and loads of fun other than the load times.

I thought it was pretty good when I played through a couple of years ago, but was let down by the combat system some.

Yeah now that its mentioned Parasite Eve is good for this. 2 from what I hear was an okay take on the RE formula but a far cry from how interesting the first game was. Then the third was just like a complete assassination of the series and just awful on so many levels.

Driver is another one. The first game was very solid (aside from the seemingly-impossible Training Stage), but the other games had problems of various levels of severity, with the third one being the worst offender by far.

Brave Fencer Musashiden - pretty fun in its own right. But the sequel, Musashi:Samurai Legend, on PS2 is very much a forgotten afterthought.
Gargoyle's Quest and Gargoyle's Quest 2 on Gameboy and NES hardly gets the fanfare and attention received by Demon's Crest/Blazeon.

Star Control for sure. The second game is the best of them by a mile and the one still fondly remembered. The others are either forgotten or outright dismissed.

Clock Tower. I think only the first one is actually good. Empire Earth as well - I liked only the second one (and the J2ME one).

Wizards & Warrior, NES
Well, not really sure, but I like the 1st game the best. Don't know how many people consider the sequels to be superior, though the 2nd game seemed to have reached 500,000 copies in sales.

The sequel, for whatever reason gets a bit of notoriety for featuring Fabio on the cover and it had strong marketing (being published by Acclaim probably helped). A friend of mine had it and that was in an era when people owned very few games (we mostly rented ours). The third game though...nobody talks about that one. And I always forget there's a Game Boy game.
