I remember playing this emulated a while ago. Found it too difficult to maintain my interest.

lol someone should do a super mario brothers 1 rom hack and make the game like this with sidescrolling. I read about this right after I beat the Lost Levels earlier this year but never got around to trying this out.

I actually read an entire article on this game and 2 other PC Mario games that Hudson did in an issue of Retro Gamer. The other two were more like the original arcade Mario Bros. They are supposedly much better than Super Mario Bros. Special.

Yeah, I remember this being mentioned on the Lost Levels forums. The game itself is pretty bad. There were also a few more Mario games like this, which were also bad.

I think the fireballs are actually the firefoxes from Donkey Kong. And I think I made out a jumping fly dude from the original Mario Bros.

That jumping fly was the Hudson Bee that they added.

There were quite a few Mario "edutainment" titles released on the PC. I own 1 myself (Mario's Time Machine), which I got via a mailorder thing they did for books (and later on, educational PC software) at my little sister's primary school.
