What's the first game that let you do a "pacifist run" and it was encouraged in some way, but killing enemies was still an option? A partial one is the first segment of Ice Trek (1983), but it goes into a "kill em all" segment later on in the game. Castle Wolfenstein (1981)

What's the first example of a "Western JRPG", i.e., a non-Japanese RPG that mimics JRPGs?
The two earliest I can currently come up with are The Speris Legacy (Amiga) and Secret of Evermore (SNES), both from 1995.
Anything before them?

Hunter (1991) for the Amiga was pretty much a proto-gta 3 Open world game, that somehow fit on one disk. There was loads of vehicles to ride, including a windsurf.
Open world games weren't that uncommon on the microcomputers, with the Elite and Mercenary series for example, but Hunter really was it's own thing. The Amiga was filled with "games before its time" if you happen to be an American who's oblivious to the story of gaming from an European point of view.

Proto-GTA, yeah. I've been meaning to have a proper look at that one at some point.
Simulcra for example can be considered one of the first 3D platformers, and Carrier Command is kinda like Herzog Zwei but in 3D.

Hunter was very impressive back then but nowadays feels too slow, even though the graphics are charming and the atmosphere very bleak

Nintendo Power Pad. It would be a while until Konami would bring back floor pad controllers for Dance Dance Revolution.

Is the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man (1982) the first example of a game marketed around a specific release date? See this ad.I've usually seen "Sonic 2sday" (1992) cited as the first such example, but it looks like Atari beat Sega to it by a decade.

Looks like you haven't gotten around to Galaga 88 yet. It does have single screen levels but they are interspersed with some short scrolling ones.
