...Do you think had the most beautiful music you've ever heard in an 8-bit Konami game?
I would say Lagrange Point. It should be noted that Konami utilized virtually every single sound channel that was available for the Famicom to score the music for that game.

I'd still toss in my vote for Castlevania 2. That, along with various Sunsoft games (see other thread) had some of the best sound synth on the NES.
I'm pretty sure Lagrange Point is the only Famicom game that had a Fm chip inside that synthesized the music. I've never really played the game myself though.

Akumajou Densetsu (Castlevania 3 with the VRC6 chip), or Lagrange Point. Close runner up would be Madara (I forget the full title of this one, but it was the other VRC6 game).

I just gave Lagrange Point a quick spin, and I did NOT know the Famicom was capable of generating that kind of sound! It practically sounds like a Turbografx-16 title! Impressive by far, but I wish I knew what the fark was going on in the game! Dang RPG's entirely in Japanese language...
I'll say that Castlevania III and Journey to Silius contain some of the coolest-sounding musics on the system. I'm sure there's much more for the NES, but none that come immediately to mind.

As amazing as the music in Lagrange Point is, I really wish someone would do an english translation of it, because even I can't make it that far into the game.

It's been said, but Castlevania III has always been a firm favorite of mine. The Japanese version with the VRC6 chip does have superior music, but the Western release has it's charms too. If the Lagrange Point soundtrack is as you all say, I'll have to listen to it soon...

Supposedly, J2e Translations was working on Lagrange Point, but the (god-awful) website doesn't say anything about it anymore - the only evidence left is this page at romhacking.net.

I am suprised no one mentioned Gradius, Life Force, or Gradius II. Amazing music for shooters.

I'm aware of at least one Namco game (Megami Tensei 2) that had a specialized sound processor inside, and I think there was at least one other. I believe it's an FM chip. IRT topic: Hmm! Madara or Akumajo Densetsu...maybe Super C/Contra 2

I don't know a lot about Konami's music for NES/Famicom, but I really love most of their tunes for MSX (Penguin Adventure, King's Valley II, The Maze of Galious, to name a few).

I definately love the soundtrack of Castlevania 2 the best. Too bad I like the actual gameplay the least.

Castlevania II- probably my favorite NES Castlevania for both the music and gameplay. They deserve props for the Gyruss soundtrack, which sports a very nice techno remix of Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D that cannot be denied.
