There's actually a charge effect for the homing lasers, too, but it's not particularly useful. You charge it by holding the 'weapon swap' key. It fires a bunch of homing lasers at a single target, which create an area-effect explosion. Huh, never knew that. I'll have to try it out sometime. But yeah, it sounds like it isn't as useful as the constant holding down of the weapon button for continuous homing attacks.

Yeah, I noticed the article buried under a ton of links near the end of the main page... Still what I meant was it would have been nice if the article included for what platform it was for. I didn't know and it left me wondering. That's all. Anyway I finally played the demo it looks and plays nice. Kinda reminded me of Raystorm in places.

This game has apparently been discontinued by the publisher, and their webpage is gone, too. I'm not sure exactly what happened- I'll have to dig a little more.
It's a real bummer, though. D:

Is there anywhere else to get the demo? If not, I'll gladly upload it.

Whoa. That's a damn shame, since Ether Vapor's really good.

Now I'm sorry I didn't grab all the bonus material when I had the chance.

Necropost! I discovered at random tonight that apparently the Ether Vapor website is back online; the publisher is back and has released an update patch. I'm not sure what it adds yet, but it seems to be a boss rush mode, and I remember hearing rumors about a perma-Overdrive mode once upon a time. There is also something called 'Ether Viper'- which appears to be an April Fools' gag of some sort, where the EX-Tio is replaced with the Vic Viper or something that handles like it- and a teaser page for their next project, something called 'Bloom Fairy Freesia'. I'll have to takea look at all this, but perhaps an update is in order. Still, fantastic news- I'm glad these guys are still around! - HC ETA: Okay, having goofed around with this: Apparently version 1.04 is not that new. It adds a boss rush mode and the ability to use the Overdrive for the entire game if you've beaten it once. This is not as impressive as it sounds, as the Overdrive in general only appears to increase your damage output about 25-30% instead of the 10x damage you did in the endgame. Some boss patterns have also changed. I have not beaten the game on this patch yet; the forum chatter did lead me to believe that it produced an improved ending. Ether Viper is a joke, a short three-stage game where apparently Daniel (the 2nd and 5th-stage boss in EV) has built a missile powerful enough to destroy the world, and you've got to stop him. It's side-scrolling only, recycles all of its' graphics from EV, and you play as a modified version of the Ex-Tio; your options act like they do in the gradius series, and you've only got a single weapon that is upgraded at the end of every stage. It's short, but its' fun. It does have a nifty electric-guitar remix of the main Ether Vapor theme, which is the primary thing it's got going for it. I will write up an update for the Ether Vapor article ASAP.
