Does Mednafen not work in Win7 64 bit? I'm still on XP here. If it does, that should provide decent PC-FX emulation. I don't consider emulators for screenshot purposes to be necessarily ones I'd play games on extensively anyway. This obviously depends on what kind of screens are needed. Plus FRAPS works with all of the best emulators available for the wintel platform. Sure, some might see it as a negative point in that it captures at exactly how you're outputting to the screen instead of before any image manipulation occurs, but honestly that's going to result in a more accurate picture more often than not (particularly in regard to systems that outputted at funky resolutions but at a 4:3 aspect ratio, like the CPS2/CPS3). If it wasn't for Ootake, Mednafen would still be my PCE emulator of choice. I really don't see why people still bother to pirate/pay for Magic Engine with the PCE/PC-FX alternatives available now a days. I use Magic Engine because someone else bought it for me legit 14 years ago. As far as what else I use, I just tend to use whatever's working well enough for me. I'm still using VirtuaNES for NES/FDS games, VBA (an old Linked version) for GBA and GB, SNES9X for SNES, DEGA for Master System, and alternate between Gens and Kega Fusion for Genesis/32X/SCD. Good lord, I still remember the days of using Pasofami (and the dreaded split-cart format) for NES emulation. I kind of wish another NES emulator (or any emulator, for that matter) would have an option for MIDI output, just for novelty's sake.

I always used Magic Engine until that terrible day i wanted to run Strider and Langrisser hikari no matsuei. Dunno what happen with those games but with Strider, there is a glitch in-game the hp bar-score goes erratic lol.. Langrisser has an eternal audio looping with the voices of the battle screen, you still can hear them when you are on the map screen =/ very annoying. Switched to Ootake and voilĂ . everything solved (using the same ISOs btw). So, my recommendation,.. if you don`t care about those two games i mentioned,.. go with magic engine,it has very nice video filters,.. Ootake only has bilinear filtering iirc. I use both, just in case xD

If anyone is still looking for a good SNES emulator, I started out with SNES9X, but tried ZSNES when the former kept crashing on me. ZSNES is far more stable. It has a reputation for being complex, but don't let that scare you off. It's still easy to get your games loaded up and going. Oh, and it's compatible with whatever data you already have saved to your ROMs, if you switch from one emulator to another.

Any good emulator for Megadrive with the ability to input auto-load/auto-save command in your joypad?

I've not played extensively with these but enough to see if they could run and play the games properly: 32X/Genesis/Sega CD: Kega Fusion; Gens not being able to run Lunar: The Silver Star factors here. 3DO: FreeDO seems to work well enough for me. Arcade: MAME, well duh. CD-i: The imaginatively named CD-i Emulator is the only one I've tried and it only sort of functions. Only tried Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and the brilliant cutscenes and audio are sadly out of sync and it all controls with the mouse with no way that I can find to reconfigure this. Also the game's cursor and where it actually interacts are way apart from each other though I don't know if that's a problem with the game or the emulator. Otherwise it seems fairly functional but these issues prevent me from actually using it at this time (and I so wanted to see if the game lived up to the hype or not ) Dreamcast: NullDC, Chankast did not run for me at all besides the system boot jingle. Well I did get to the Last Hope title screen but the colors were screwed up and it got stuck on a loading screen when I started the game so... Game Boy (Color/Advance): Visual Boy Advance, clearly. Mobile Phones/Java: KEmulator, for the purpose of playing Nowhere and seems to work well so far. N64: Project 64 is good. NeoGeo: Ugh, this has been complicated. Well I just want to say that WinKawaks is what works for me but oddly enough, version 1.59 but not 1.62. I had both versions side to side and configured 1.62 with the same files as the former with the same settings and for some reason 1.62 still wouldn't recognize my game files. Actually 1.59 only seemed to work because it was actually listed as a download of Cyber-Lip that came pre-loaded with the game, and thus was able to load other games on it too. I've tried a few versions of NeoRageX and they either freeze on the boot screen or the graphics are all screwed up. For NeoGeo CD I tried Neo CD/SDL and I couldn't even get the emulator itself to start up. I have NeoRaine which at least starts up but I haven't really figured out how to actually use it yet. Maybe later... Haven't tried Nebula but have heard good things but Kawaks is good enough for now. NES: NEStopia. Between this, Jnes and FCEUX, this was the only one that could run Sweet Home. PlayStation: ePSXe. PSX and PCSXR are decent too but ePSXe has better configuration abilities and so am able to run different games smoothly with the right plug-ins unlike, say, PSX. PlayStation2: PCSX2. Works surprisingly well. Forbidden Siren 2 has some weird lines across the screen that are a bit distracting but otherwise plays fine. Maybe the graphics can be fixed through some messing around with the graphics options but I'll fiddle with that some other time. Saturn: SSF. I tried Satourne as well but couldn't figure out how to run it, and I've heard it has problems anyway. Sharp X1: Xmillennium. Only because of the download link for the site's Brain Breaker article. The controls don't quite match up to what's described in the article (the arrow keys don't actually seem to work) and awkwardly the number keys are what are used for movement, and I don't think there is a way to configure this but oh well it works fine otherwise. SNES: ZSNES. Haven't tried anything else and don't feel like I have to at this time.

Haven't tried any TurboGrafx/PC Engine emulators, does Ootake also play Supergrafx games?

Haven't tried any TurboGrafx/PC Engine emulators, does Ootake also play Supergrafx games? Yes, and every kind of CD-ROM system, to my knowledge. I tested with 1941: Counter Attack. I suppose here I should start going on about some Android emulators, since I've got a handful on my Xperia Play... NES-FC Lite - A surprisingly good NES emulator. Haven't tested the usual suspects (Castlevania 3's US and Japanese versions) but seems to run at full speed without too much hassle. Yes, this is a payware emulator, but in this case the "Lite" version only prevents you from playing FDS games, using Game Genie codes, and using the save state function. SuperGNES Lite - Another payware emu, this one's actually quite full-featured even in its lite version. Save states are disabled (well, you can save them, but you can't load them) but the emulator will load games with special chips like SuperFX and SA-1 (haven't tested Mega Man X2 or 3), has a cheats database that searches online, even has a function that will auto-search GameFAQs on the game you're playing. The ROM list also auto-downloads cover artwork for games that are in the current folder. GENPlusDroid - Seems to be a port of Genesis Plus. This is an ad-supported full version - all features are enabled, and the ads will only appear on the Load ROM menu. I can testify that the ads are non-intrusive. Has so far run everything I've thrown at it, including Beyond Oasis, Gunstar Heroes, and Flashback. Save states work nicely. MAME4Droid Reloaded - Though it's based on an old version of MAME (0.139) and performance is nowhere near enough to play some of the really demanding games (notably, Neo-Geo needs heavy frame skipping), if you need a classic arcade fix on the go, this works nicely.

jjmcjj: Final Burn Alpha also has Neo Geo CD support, although I haven't tried out any games so I can't comment if it works well or not.

Oh I think I spoke too soon on MAME. My remark was based on one game working. Trying others and it's completely hit and miss, mostly miss. So then I try the rebuild feature for CLRMAMEPro to get older ROMs updated and running and the piece of shit keeps crashing every time I try it. Guess I'll have to forego arcade games for the time being (or become a multimillionaire, buy a large space and a bunch of rare arcade cabinets to keep around in).
EDIT: OK actually the problem isn't the crashing (I removed the offending file and the rebuild went on just fine) it's that I can't sort through what are thousands of unalphabetized files to see what ROMs and CHDs are missing in the files I do have. And no matter how many files I remove from the ROMs folder it still goes on about scanning for every single arcade file in existence and making it a pain in the ass for me to find just the files that I have on my computer!

It usualy does that. Not sure you can do anything about it, but every version of Mame I've tried did it.

Yeah I like the idea behind clrmamepro but I find it too unintuitive to be much use for me. Thankfully I just found rom-connection.ca which has a section full of MAME ROM packs made to be compatible with ver. 145 alphabetically listed that I can use instead, and I can do so without messing with torrents or having to pay for it like some websites, so yay for that!

Now currently trying out WinUAE, and was actually able to get it to work this time unlike the last time I tried it, so a big thumbs up right there!
However I've been playing around with KGB, which seems to play fine but having seen bits of a Longplay of the game I've noticed some things are off. Firstly, the "Chapter 1" screen never shows up, it just goes straight to the game after the Cryo, Virgin Games and street corner picture screens. Secondly, the facial animations are slower/less smooth than what I saw in the Longplay. Lastly, the music never changes. It plays the one track it starts off with and doesn't switch to any other track, which should happen within about ten minutes within the game, while I've played it for around half an hour. Anything with the (rather complicated) WinUAE settings I need to fix to get it to play the "proper" way?

Well, first, was the longplay you watched on the same system? And maybe try a different ROM.
I managed to get WinUAE running, too, but it was such a mess that it robbed me of any inclination to play games on it.

Yes, in fact it was an Amiga longplay. I also have the DOS version and the music is decidedly different. And I did try a different ROM and it was pretty much the same. :/ WinUAE is pretty fussy, with some bugs and the load times are terrible (though I'm not sure how much of that is the emulator's or original Amiga's fault) but overall I'm fine with it, but if only I knew its inner workings a lot better than I do.
