Didn't Hudson say that Bonk and Zonk are not the same character?

Not sure? Bonk pretty evidently morphs into Zonk in the intro, so, hey.

Zonk is actually a decendant of Bonk. He looks like him but they are related not the same person. I read it somewhere but I'll provide some concrete proof.

I never really got the play the TG16 games, though I watched them from that display thing that radio shack used to have. I remember going into fits when I found out there was an SNES Bonk, it's kind of a relief to know I'm not the only person who found it oddly lacking.

Yeah, everyone thought Bonk and Zonk were the same character. But I then read (I don't remember where) that Hudson said they weren't the same character.

I remember how disappointed I was back then when Super Zonk came out and there wasnt any parallax scrolling. If only the same team who did the first Air Zonk would of made the sequel it would of been better than the first game.

I, too, thought the SNES/SuFami Bonks were pretty poor (I remember paying, I think, $70 for the first one after it received a very limited US release), but Bonk's Revenge, to this day, is still one of my all-time fav platformers.

For those who loved air zonk and were disapointed by its sequel, you should try "coryoon : child of dragon" on tg16. It's basically a spiritual prequel to air zonk : The same art style is there, the engine is obviously the same(up to the bluish screen during mid-boss) and the game is as good. There isn't a lot of weapon like air zonk but the game have more stage. The game is really fun but unless you play on the harder difficulty mode, it will be a piece of cake since extra life are generously distributed(to a max of 9 like air zonk). And if the link between the two game isn't obvious, the wimpy first form of the last boss of air zonk come directly from the first boss of coryoon.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a shot sometime. I ran a quick Japangamestock search, and wow is it expensive...
Anyway, the article went live today, but I just added a small bit about the cell phone game, Bonk's Return.

Doh! I knew I had to send you something for the Bonk article. It was the cell phone game. Good thing you got it on your own then.
In the article, Bonk's Revenge:
Certain flowers will allow Bonk to fly, and you can also move the trampoline flowers by hitting them, which is a big key to finding lots of hidden stuff. (DOUBLE CHECK THIS) It's also a small thing, but the evil flowers - the kind that would jump out and attack instead of giving you a power-up

I think the article didn't mention that the remake of Bonk's Adventure was released on PS2 and also Gamecube.

I interviewed Shouichi Yoshikawa, who worked on a few Bonk games on behalf of a company called A.I. A.I developed Bonk 3, NES Bonk, and the second GB Bonk. It also co-developed the Super NES Bonks with a subcontractor called Amble and was planning Ultra Genjin for the N64, which got turned into Bomberman Hero. A.I may have developed the other GB Bonk games, but the first one doesn't have credits, and I haven't seen credits for the third one. A.I seems to have been involved with the first TG-16 Bonk. Company co-founders Arai and Innai turn up in the Japanese credits, as does "Tsurumoku" (Mamoru Shiratani), who later started Amble. Dual developed Super Air Zonk. The same team (roughly) that worked on Air Zonk worked on a number of shooters for Naxat including the aforementioned Coryoon.

Good to know, thanks! I guess that makes sense why Bonk 3/SNES Bonk don't quite live up to the standards of the originals.
Did Red develop Air Zonk or was that outsourced?
