MAME itself allows to record AVI movies.
I use a program called "Evan's Movie to Animated GIF Converter" to convert movies to animated GIFs.

I sent Kurt an article on Jacob Buczynski's games (Revenge of the Sunfish, anyone?) and now I'm working on Bio Menace. Then I'm gonna dive into some text-mode DOS games.

Would anyone be interested in an article covering The Prisoner and Prisoner 2 games for the Apple II? They're unique early '80s adventure games based on the British cult series of the same name. They're also some of the earliest titles to use "meta" game mechanics (such as a fake error screen). The game designer, David Mullich, went on to work as a producer on I Have No Mouth and Dark Seed II. The only problem I have right now is I can't figure out how to run the original version of the first game. I can run the obscure French version with ease, but the original American version just won't launch. I have two versions of the disk file and all I get is this or that. Does anybody familiar with the Apple II know what's going on here? I'll also try to get in touch with Mullich and see if I can ask him questions about the game, that would be neat.

I find it interesting that I wrote more just on Mega Man Legends alone that the entire article for Pandemonium 1 and 2, and that's not counting the big intro.

I took a bunch of screenshots for Mega Man Legends if you need them! www.hardcoregaming101.net/megamanlegends/They're split between ones I took on my PSP and ones from ePSXe. Both need to be bulk cropped before they can be used but I can take care of that. Would anyone be interested in an article covering The Prisoner and Prisoner 2 games for the Apple II? Even if you can't get the English one working OK, it might be a faulty disk image. whoah theres no articles on this site for brain lord / mystic ark / 7th saga what gives I have to admit I haven't really played any of these (except for briefly messing around with Brain Lord. Always up for taking submissions on these, though I was always under the impression that 7th Saga wasn't terribly good.

whoah theres no articles on this site for brain lord / mystic ark / 7th saga what gives I could probably whip up a solid Brain Lord article over December, there's not a ton to cover. Haven't played Mystic Ark or 7th Saga. 7th Saga sounds like it might be interesting though, just as an example of localization gone wrong.

LOL I was actually working on Brain Lord/7th Saga/Mystic Ark/MA PSX this very evening! Weirdly though I have a lot more to say about Brain Lord than I thought I would, the localization is really good and lighthearted for the time. Reminds me of The Slayers. I had the same reaction as you a couple of days ago, I somehow thought 7th Saga at least was already covered.

Look forward to seeing them then. Pre-merger Enix games deserve a lot more attention. Make sure you mention Brain Lord's arena subquest! Favourite part of the game for me.

My favorite was the creeper with the peephole because it was so out of nowhere along with his long rambling excuse. Also A mouse! A mouse! A mouse! A mouse! A mouse! A mouse! I do want to do more Enix games in general, it's impressive how much they tried to break the mold every time.

Oh, yeah, I remember those now! I guess that's how you ended up with more than you thought you'd have.
The key with Enix is that they were really just a publisher, not a development studio at all. Even Dragon Quest isn't developed in-house. So they just picked up whatever they thought looked good and tried to push it in the right direction with what sway they had. Nowadays we tend to think of game publishers as the big American shootbang guys, but Enix was something else.

So I'm doing an article on Klax. The main body of it is done, but now I have like a million ports to do after that, So I'd like to ask you folk: Are there any huge differences across the versions that you guys are aware of, in case I miss them? I just want to make sure I don't end u[ saying that, say, for example, the BBC Micro version is pretty good when it's actually super broken.
(I'm not looking forward to playing the BBC Micro.)
