Everytime I download and try to play Samurai Showdown on MAME, it doesnt work. Always complains that there are some files missing. Am I doing something wrong or Am I just downloading from the wrong place.
I've got my files from places like Rom Nation, Rom World and Rom Hustler. I also got files from a private torrent tracker site, but everytime I get same kind of errors.
And yes, I do have the neo geo files. Im not that stupid.
I also have same kind of problems with some other roms. For example, when I tried to play SplatterHouse a year ago, the game complained that some files are missing. I tried a month ago, BAM, no complaints and the game worked perfectly.

Try searching MAWS for the missing files, then downloading the appropriate romset. I've had problems where downloading a completely unrelated game solved it.

Make sure you are using the latest MAME version. The Neo Geo roms were changed yet again a few versions ago.
So either use an old MAME with your old neogeo sets, or use a new MAME with the new neogeo sets.

can't say this enough, good as mame is, it's a jack of all trades master of none. winkawaks or any neo geo specific emulator might be better for you.

Not really. If he downloaded new neogeo sets, then Kawaks/Nebula/FBA won't play them either. Those emulators use the same MAME specific romsets.

more often than not, the files are named differently between mame and a company specific emulator(not the zip/folder, but the files inside), so often downloading a neo geo rom for instance, it might be intended specifically for a neo geo emulator instead of mame. especially if you grabbed the roms from a neo geo specific section of the site instead of a mame section.

use ClrMAMEPro over your sets to identify the problem(s). Keep it handy (and update it every now and then), because it's a lifesaver whenever new MAME builds roll out that alter the preexisting romsets in anyway. edit - Tutorial Here. Helps a bunch starting out and I'm sure that once you use it a bit, you'll love it every bit as everyone else.

I'd just like to mention that most of the games work fine now. After long waiting and file transfering, I got my computer with all the newest MAME roms downloaded from a torrent tracker. It was a special set specifically dedicated to the newest version, and I think there's one everytime MAME gets updated.
Now, most of the games, including Samurai Showdown, and several other that didnt work, work now. There's still some things that wont work, but hey! Now I got everything I wanted.
Thanks for all the help, and hopefully when I get my own internet access, we can all have a round of Sunset Riders.

Yes, MAME usually changes the romset names with each new version. So if you don't want your roms to stop working, then don't download a new MAME.

I hate how Mame does that. I had a full set once, now 50% of them don't work.

If they didn't do that then they couldn't advance and fix things. Arcade romsets don't work like console ones. It's not that easy And besides, that's what CTRLMAME is for, to fix your romsets without you having to download them again.

I notice some variants of MAME will not list the Neo-Geo games if you don't have ALL of the bios files. That means not only the normal MAME files, but also the Universe BIOS as well (which typically isn't included in most romsets). The games usually still run if you tell MAME to ignore the missing files and continue, but they won't appear in Available Games and will fail any audit checks.

Uhh what? Universe Bios? Isn't that a pirate Bios? I don't think MAME requires it, at least not for any of the official games.
