It looks awesomer than I ever could have fathomed. ;D I thank ye for getting the screenshots for the GB games and using the ones I took for the arcade and NES. I see you've used "Get the heck out of here, you nerd," "This base will explod in 60 seconds," and "You damn fool," as well as Hitler's exploding head. I made it a top priority to get shots of all of those. Interesting how Radd only looks anything close to his NES incarnation on the cover for Hitler no Fukkatsu. At least the American version of Radd isn't worse that the first Mega Man game... This will probably be the last article that I have done for this site in quite a long while. But I'm honored it could be on one of my most favored games on the planet.

According to the article, pressing Start and Select simultaneously would return you to the map screen, but that's not true. At least for me, it's A, B and Start. Other than that, great article! I especially dig the parts about the Famicom version of the game.

Amazing article, Sotenga! I too have very fond memories of this game as well (it is my all time favorite NES game).
Quick note however that seemed a bit confusing: You made the GBC game sound like it was made from Capcom. I think I mentioned this before, but the GBC game wasn't made or even published by Capcom. It was published by Nintendo themselves and was developed by their NST development team that also made the remake of Crystalis for the GBC. I personally didn't like the remake for it's controls are way to floaty for me.

I always wished they did another as the level design is pretty ambitious for a GBC game and the sprites/animation are really nice. The game moves pretty damn fast too.

Oh also, it's notable that a couple of the enemy leader and General portraits in the NES version are based on actual military figures from the second World War.
Also I believe I maxed out the life bar at nine bullets.

MP83: D'OH! You are correct, sir. Kurt, edit as necessary. *bows* Gilder: I assumed that the game wasn't made by Capcom, but I wasn't quite sure otherwise. That would explain why it's rather average compared to the NES and GB games... it just doesn't feel Capcom, ya know? Rasa: Yeah... Elite Forces wasn't horrendous. I just keep getting the nagging feeling that it could have been much better as well, ya know? And the General of the allies does bear quite a resemblance to Patton, if I remember reading correctly. Thank you all! I'm honored that I could write this article, and I almost want to do another one, but... well, as I said, I probably won't have time. Three words: Senior fucking project. Soooooooo... blame school. Maybe I'll return in the future, but I can't think of any games I'd want to talk about at the current moment. This is the point where real life interferes with the stuff I want to do and my work is on hiatus. It happens... we all know it. It sucks, but this site has no shortage of exemplary contributors.

Here's my small contribution to your fine article. (I scanned these with the article in mind) Enjoy (I only ask that I get credit for the scans, since a lot of hard work went into getting them, for this and other articles as well) And thankyou for writing about a game that is one of the classics of the NES era and one of my favorites as well. ;D NES Bionic Commando ================ img154.imageshack.us/img154/7701/lwf00296ag.jpgGB-Mono Nintendo Power Article Intro =========================== img154.imageshack.us/img154/2773/lwf00400qz.jpg

at least get the first level theme from the Arcade version. It's downright classy.
Also, unless you and your friend are both gaming gods (or in some rare cases goddesses) two player mode in the arcade Bionic Commando is impossible. Starting at the third level (the robot hanger,) if you die, you are sent right back to the beginning, and the fun starts anew until you get frustrated and go back to playing the incredibly crappy version of street fighter 2 they put on that Capcom Arcade thing.
Seriously, how hard can it really be to release an arcade version of Street Fighter 2? I own two collections that have it, and yet when we want to throw down, we have to resort to loading up MAME on the ol' modded X-Box. There is no justice

Yes record the arcade version tunes! At least the level 3 theme (the sewers theme), its the ONLY good thing found on that game.

Awesome, awesome article, which does happen to include my favorite game of all time. Props on that, leaving me only to say you have done it justice (no higher compliment can I think of at this time).
The only suggestion I'd make might be adding a sub article or addendum covering Commando since it's still part of the BC universe by merit of Super Joe and the subgame in BC when you have the truck encounters.

Alright, I updated it. Apparently, the hero of the original arcade game is actually Super Joe - Radd didn't take over until the second game. Amusingly, the original title was Bionic Commandos. Plus, the Capcom Classics disc has a tiny comic of our hero using his arm to pilfer some lady's undergarments. I also recorded the first two level songs from the arcade version (sorry, dunno which one the sewers theme is - if it's the third one on the sound test, it wasn't that great) plus added a picture that was the same as the Japanese Famicom cover, but had Hitler's face redrawn.

No, its not the third one in the soundtest. The sewers theme is the best theme in the game, I don't know what the number is in the soundtest.
