The third in the Sierra game adventure game series, Leisure Suit Larry! www.hardcoregaming101.net/lsl/lsl.htmUnlike the other two game series, I'd only ever played a couple of these in my younger years (the first one (EGA) and third) so it was mostly a new experience. The ones that actually try to focus on plot and adventure actually seem to be the weakest. What I did find interesting was all of the different ways that Vivendi has farmed out the IP, more than just with Magna Cum Laude. I get the feeling some of these were only available in Europe (other than the obvious German released game) but I don't have any strict sources on that.

Great read. You've done your homework.
So, which of the games did you liked the most?
There's a few things that could be mentioned about Larry 7: - Apparently some copies of the game came with a real condom (Larry-sized, so it must be rather small). - Every time you "finish" a woman, you'll earn a Windows wallpaper of her to your hard drive.

Never heard of the condom bit, but I did know about the wallpapers. You can actually just cheat and rename some files. I think I'll post up a few before the article goes final. I think my favorite is Larry 7, just because it has the best writing, but I admit I have a soft spot for Larry 3 - it's my favorite of the older games, at least. Looking over some old reviews, it seems like Love for Sail got pretty meh reviews back when it came out, just because it seemed like critics felt the series had worn out its welcome. Kinda of a shame.

Thanks for the article about this series. I've always heard about those games, but never had a chance to play any of them. It really is a shame that the adventure genre has gone to shit.

Hmm, only read the first page so far, but no mention of the games' "adult check" (which in fact became an American check for gamers in other parts of the word. And now has probably become mostly an 80s-Check for US-Americans as well)? Also a typo at Larry 1: "Still, the cartoonish, revamped graphics five a lot of character that wasn't there in the first place. " And if I remember right, there was some kind of ingame way to cheat the casino and get money faster... And if you haven't already, you need to check out Al Lowe's Humor Site. Tons of great first-hand info on the series.

That's the saddest part of all. 13 year olds these days have way too much access to naked boobs! It probably stops being titillating (pun mostly intended) before they've even made it to third base!
*wanders off grumbling*

Any chance of posting a screenshot of the "Boss Key" for the first game?

Back then when you were kid and when you found porn (or anything with bare tits) it was like gold. Now....its like silver. Another well-done article. The original Lsl was actually one of the first oldies I downloaded from the internet, and the second game lead me to the world of Abandonware. I was 11-12 back then.

Any chance of posting a screenshot of the "Boss Key" for the first game? OK That's a big LOL from me. Not only do I need to play the LSL games, but I need to play through Sierra adventure games overall. I'm too accustomed to the Lucasarts format that most older Sierra games are a royal bitch to play (text commands, too many ways to die, etc.), but for the sake of humor, I've got to look into them. The LSL series is one I've known for a while, but being a young'un, I likely wouldn't have been allowed to play them when they were released. I'd like to prospect to change that if I may.

I always found these games pretty tasteless to be honest, but I haven't read the whole of the article yet.

Being tasteless is their purpose.
