www.hardcoregaming101.net/ys/ys.htmI hate to lead off the discussion of this excellent - now made more excellent - article with a complaint, but alas, I write what I know. I think the problem was present before but had just never been remarked upon.... At the beginning of the second page, in the discussion on Ys III, it talks about the game's controversial change, that unlike the earlier games, it has been reworked, in the style of Zelda II, into being a "third person perspective." This is incorrect in that all the Ys games are third-person. The persons of game perspective mirror those of grammar and writing: first-person means you see the world through the eyes of your character (like many shooters), and third-person means you see it through a disassociated viewport. All 2D games are third-person. First person: I, me. Second person: you. Third person: he, she, it, they, them. A second-person game would be a game that was viewed through "your," as in the player's, eyes, but that doesn't make sense in this context. One could interpret it as meaning that you see the action through the eyes of other characters in the game, or even opponents. That's a nifty, but barely workable, idea, just as it's nifty yet barely workable to write a story from a second-person perspective.

Doh. I know the difference between all of them, I just made a really stupid mistake. It should read "side-scrolling", not "third person". Thanks for the catch, that's been around since I first wrote that like over two years ago.

Actually that's where your incorrect but still correct. As in grammar and media Third-person does mean from a disassociated viewpoint - But it does not mean so in the game development world
First person means from an "eye camera" View Third person means it is from a camara that views specifically the character (Re4, Max Payne) And the other "Angles" Are Birds eye, isometric and action camera (Sidescroller)

Found out that Ys is going mobile, adding yet another port for the original Ys game. rpgfan.com/news/2006/1581.htmlIs it just me or is Ys the most console proliferated game out there? I mean there's Tetris in its various renditions which may or may not count, but the original Ys has hit a lot of systems and may take the cake.

Yeah, but for which system? The huge TurboCD or the heavily altered NES version?

Yeah, but for which system? The huge TurboCD or the heavily altered NES version? The ones for the NEC Turbo Duo/ PC Engine (Ys Book 1 & 2 and Ys 4: The dawn of Ys). I never played the NES version, but do have the Sega Master System version- Ys: Vanished Omen.

You sure you'd want that? the heaviest N64 roms aren't half that big! They'd have to do some heavy downsizing, and the first thing to come to mind is the big-ass redbook audio.

Well, last I checked phones don't support redbook. Anyway, I figure the Wii might have a much better synth chip than they to record the music at the time, so they could just render the sound in realtime and it'd still sound better!

Hey Kurt, here's something you could link to in your Ys article: Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys anime promoIt's better than the one included with Ys anime DVDs (American releases).

This is kind of funny and kind of true, I found it on wikipedia
"He (Adol) also has the curious habit of falling into the sea, and washing up on beaches, being rescued and nursed back to health by each game's female lead."
