Couldn't find a plain Ys article discussion so I'll use this topic. Alright, I've been wondering and I've looked through the article over and over again, and I was actually thinking about taking notes, but is there a way to play every Ys game in a proper (preferably best) form in english? I mean I don't want that NES version I'm talking good shit.

Beside Ys V (SFC) and Ys Origin (Windows), all the Ys games can be played in English in some way or another. The only ones available in English officially are... well, they are listed in Wikipedia. As for the best form playing each game in English, with the exception of Ys V and Ys Origin, here's my recommendation: - Ys I-II ---> Ys I-II Complete (Windows) with unofficial English patch - Ys III ---> Ys: The Oath in Felghana (Windows) with unofficial English patch (though the official English versions of Ys III for SNES and Genesis aren't bad, but are in 2D) - Ys IV ---> Ys IV: Mask of the Sun (SFC) with unofficial English patch over Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys (PCE) with unofficial English patch, since the game follows more directly Falcom's original Ys IV storyline, as well is easier to patch to English. - Ys VI ---> Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (PS2)

I have III for PCE, and while it's all right (with obligatory terrible voice acting) most people prefer Oath in Felghana since it plays in more the style of all the other games in the series. I am not aware of an english translation for Ark on PC-- the US PS2 version is best (which I know thanks to mp83) and can be played in pc mode, albeit without the 2d sprites. 2d sprites on on the psp version though.

Is the PSP version any good? I know some of the conversions of well, stuff, is bad (like PoPoLoCrois) so... Also Gurumin, for PSP is it worth it?

I don't know if it's part of the original, but one thing that bothered me about Gurumin on PSP is how the enemies and NPCs have this really weird choppy animation. Still fun, but kinda distracting since the main character animates so smoothly.

Sorry to bump, but hasn't Ark been translated on PC? Unfortunately, no. The fan-translation project was canceled when Konami announced releasing the game in English for PS2 and PSP. It was, for TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM, as you can see from the Wikipedia link I provided. I just didn't include it in my recommendation list, because I don't personally find it all that good overall, beside the awesome arranged soundtrack by Ryo Yonemitsu. The English voice-acting is really bad and the parallax scrolling insanely choppy. Is the PSP version any good? I know some of the conversions of well, stuff, is bad (like PoPoLoCrois) so... Also Gurumin, for PSP is it worth it? The PSP version of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is the worst of the bunch. It has load times everywhere, the sound effects are awfully low quality and scratchy, and the frame-rate is noticeably slow compared to PS2 and PC versions. It's a bit more tolerable when played off a memory stick, but still not good enough. As for Gurumin for PSP: I found it to be really worth my money, at least. I don't know if it's part of the original, but one thing that bothered me about Gurumin on PSP is how the enemies and NPCs have this really weird choppy animation. Still fun, but kinda distracting since the main character animates so smoothly. The enemies and NPCs only have choppy animation in the PSP port, but I didn't personally find that distracting.

Alrighty then... I guess, I'll be keeping my eyes out for a certain PS2 game. Since I just started playing Ys 1+2 (in Japanese right now, I don't have the patch yet..) I just love the combat so much, looks like Ys has got itself another fan.

When the Ys article will be updated the next time, wouldn't it be nice to put this picture in there somewhere? That's Adol Christin as seen in the manuals of original versions of Ys1 (PC-8801, FM-77, etc.). ;D

I actually wasn't asking. But I will read, even though I hate walkthroughs (or at least try to avoid them... when needed I love them!)
EDIT: It just told me the stuff I figure out myself... damn. Is there a specific inventory item I should have one?

Did not know this. I'll see if I can find an IIgs emulator - I wonder if it's done by the same guys as the PC version?

Looks like it was developed by a company called Unlimited Software and distributed by Kyodai. I don't know who developed the PC version, but usually you can tell if a IIgs game was ported from the PC if it still uses the EGA color palette. I bet it's got a pretty good soundtrack considering the musical capabilities of the IIgs.
