It's taken a loooong time, but somebody finally finished translating the SFC remake of DQIII. Download patch at Romhacking.netI don't know about any of you, but I've been waiting a while for this.

Hopefully someone spanks that onto a cart or something. I have always heard the SFC version of DQ III is the best.

What's this got over the GBC port?

It uses the DQ6 engine so it looks about 5000 times better, it also sounds about 5000 times better.

And gameplay-wise?

The differences between the NES, SFC, and GBC version, Gameplay-wise, is minimal at best. Its a DQ game not Persona, so pick your favorite console out of the 3, and go nuts.

I can't get it to work. I patched it and loaded it up, but it said that the rom was corrupt

I'm in Alefgard looking for the Rainbow Bridge ingredients so I'll give my thoughts so far.
The only differences I'm seeing between the GBC and SNES versions is the SNES one does not have monster models. I am starting to prefer this version as it is way easier on the eyes and ears than the GBC version, which was my favorite until I played this.
I'm also noticing a lot of things that slightly differ between translations. The Official GBC one and this fan-made SNES one are almost exactly the same, except I can see the official one toned down the language and some alcohol references. I'm also noticing things like it massively hinting the Queen of Isis is gay and such. (Her servants and her talking before and after the Magic Key quest, especially if you go in her room at night.)
There's also the guard in the tiny medal guy's house that says he has a husband, but I'm not sure if that one is a typo or another gay NPC running around.
There are some things like text run-off, but only in battle, so you don't really miss anything story wise.
I also like NOT BEING LIMITED TO 4 CHARACTERS when entering someone's name.
All in all, I really would recommend this translation patch. Good stuff so far.

Heh I hated that 4 character naming crap, but I got so used to calling my main guy Enix, that I still use it today

I can't get it to work. I patched it and loaded it up, but it said that the rom was corrupt Do you have the right ROM? *rimshot* I'm serious. The patch should come with a readme telling you whether it needs a headered or headerless ROM. Because of the way IPS patches work, the absence or presence of a header can result in a perfectly valid patch producing a broken ROM.

is this similar to the 1/2 remake, in that it's a lot more forgiving(much less level/money grinding) than the original?

Haha, no prob : D
And yeah, gold and experience are much easier to accumulate. I have almost all the final equipment I'll need and I have a spare 100K gold around at least. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it.
