I posted a partially finished version of this a few weeks back, but here's the whole thing with text: www.hardcoregaming101.net/goonies/goonies.htmAs usual, might go back and add/fix stuff (probably need to replay the Atari/C64 game, it's been several months.)

A great article, as always. Couple of corrections regarding the remake of the MSX Goonies though: - We started working on the remake in 2006 - not in 2005.
- Believe it or not, but you actually play as Sloth in the MSX game, according to the game manual:
And since I'm talking about the remake here, I would like to point out that even though the remake should be 100% playable, it's not properly polished yet.

Great article. The Goonies might still be one of my favorite movies and I still enjoy the games to this day. I'd gotten the first game on a knock off Japanese system my parents picked up at a garage sale and thoroughly played the heck out of it until the system died. That in turn got me into the movie. It took a while longer before I got around to playing the second one and found it more enjoyable than the first. The second game also piqued my interest for the longest time since my brother picked up one of those old, old NES Player's Guides that had a full map of the Hideout, front & back and descriptions of the enemies, items, etc. (And when you're six, that's one of the coolest things ever). Glad to see these games are finally getting their due.

A small mistake at the start:
"but when I was it in the movie theatres when I was five"

Here's a picture (courtesy of Jorito) of the story page of MSX game manual: Click! There's no doubt that the player in the MSX game is supposed to be Sloth.

INCREDIBLY small minor typo: Goonies II wasn't released in 1997. It was 1987

All of the above has been fixed. Thanks!
The only thing I take issue with is Sloth being the main character of the MSX game. The sprite is almost exactly the same as the other games where you play as Mikey. While it kind of makes sense, in that there are seven Goonies in each level, it sounds like a strange justification made by the manual writers (possibly this is the same in the Japanese version though.) Regardless, I mentioned this anyway, because it's really weird.

For us Icelanders: Ég held að Tiger sé að selja hana á c.a 400kr, Dönsk/Norsk útgáfa, en ódýrara en að leigja. Allavegana, ættla þangað nyðureftir í dag til að tékka það út.

Engar áhyggjur, ég skrapp í Tiger (á Akureyri) og fíflin voru búin að skipta gömlu út fyrir "nýjar" myndir (sem sökka btw). ...ég sem ættlaði að kaupa mér björninn :/

The home computer Goonies game has a cool concept, sadly ruined by the extreme difficulty level. This, until you get to the eighth and final screen: it's incredibly easy that dying is practically impossible. On the other hand,I have good memories from Goonies 2. Nice article,as usual! EDIT: Here's a scan ( page 1 and page 2 )from the old C64 related magazine Zzap!,with a review of Goonies.
