Replaying them to take pictures for the article, I improved substantially, at least as much as one can using the regular controller instead of the twin sticks. I actually kinda like Virtual On Marz too. Despite the load times, it's better than I thought it'd be, and dirt cheap too.

This article kind of makes me wonder how much depth I should go into comparing Senko no Ronde to this game, as G.Rev did take the basic concepts from Virtual On and streamlined it, then topped it off with their own style of awesome.

Great Article, though I have a small nitpick. The author forgot to mention that Fei Yen, Temjin & Apharmd the Hatter made an appearance in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 as playable mecha.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what the exact dates were when the Virtual On games were released? I'm asking because someone on the gameFAQs boards (yeah, I know that's almost a definite sign that it's not credibile, but bear with me for a moment) stated that VOOT copied some of Pyschic Force's stuff, specifically from 2012. I can't really confirm if this is true or not because both games AND their sequels were released in the same years at the arcades. This is further compounded by the fact that I haven't really delved into 2012 much since I just got it last Monday.

Even if they were released in the same year, it's highly unlikely that a game could come out at the beginning of the year, and then a competiting company says "Let's redesign our game to steal that!" and somehow get it completed/manufactured within a short time span. I have no idea about Psychic Force, but without being familiar with any of the concepts, but I'm going to say that any similarities are probably coincidental.

Well, Psychic Force is more traditional than Virtual On (2D playing field and stuff), with the exception that you're always standing still if you want to launch your projectile attacks; dashing is only used for quick evasion, and dashing directly towards your opponent gives you invulnerability to weak projectile attacks. The game does show promise of a lot of deph considering what I've seen from the CPU matches at max difficulty and me messing around the game for a bit over the weekend, but it still feels a little bit more stiff than VOOT primarily because your psy meter that you use for almost every attack in the game requires you to stand still for a bit. Then again, light projectile attacks require no psy energy, so I guess that's why they did that.

One game that made me think "ripoff" would be 'Custom Robo' on the GC (the one that made it here at least). Serriously, the game controls identically, with the auto-locking charge shots and 3 weapon system.
