I’m sure we all know that a hot spring is a place where hot (sometimes boiling) water flows naturally from the ground. Now most people would assume that no life can live in boiling water, but, surprisingly, this is not the case. There are actually certain types of bacteria that will continue to thrive under these conditions. These types of bacteria are so plentiful in some hot springs that they discolor the water, often with incredible results. Sometimes it makes the water look just plain disgusting, and other times it creates a look that’s positively unreal.
I’ll try to focus on one hot spring per post, but I haven’t been able to identify every one of the images, so at least one post will just have misc. unidentified hot springs.
Anyway, on with the pics!

Emerald Spring in Yellowstone National Park.Apparently, the coloration of Emerald Spring has more to do with the rock than the bacteria in the water, but it’s still pretty cool looking, so I’ll post it anyway.
