If anybody is interested, even though the game has a tutorial, here is a Joy Mecha Fight FAQ at GameFAQs. Three things: I mentioned in this piece that there are hidden variations of a few moves. How about writing each move variant into the piece? I could probably work them into the character profiles very easily. Also, I have recently found that there are a couple jumping techniques in the game that I had never noticed before. What about writing that into the text somewhere as well? Does anybody happen to have the instruction manual for this game?

This needs to be slightly rewritten. I will send in the mildly altered version whenever I finish it. Do you need any more screenshots?

OK. If the piece is longer, then I may need a few more screenshots. Offhand, I'm not sure how many extras I took.

There are three reasons that Joy Mecha Fight needs to be slightly rewritten. I didn't post these things earlier because I had not completely verified the factuality of the last, but I am absolutely positive of it at this point.
1 - There are a few things that I neglected to mention. Especially noteworthy is that by simply moving sprite segments across the screen rather than changing between different animation frames it technically has smoother animations than any other 2-D fighter. This is not really that important, but if I am going to update/revise/rewrite it than I might as well mention it and a few other things as well.
2 - There are a couple inovative jumping techniques that, for whatever reason, I just recently noticed. Joy Mecha Fight allows you to change direction mid-air after jumping straight up, and it is the first fighter with long jumps and multiple jump distances. I play this game quite a bit, so I have no clue how I did not notice these things before. Of course, this update could be take care of with only very slight revision, but the primary reason for this slight rewrite is...
3 - ALL THIRTY-SIX CHARACTERS ARE PLAYABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That being said, I obviously need to update the character profiles, if nothing else.

Having just looked at the piece, it seems like it would work if I just revised a couple paragraphs, updated the character profiles, and maybe put in another paragraph or two.

Just registered to post a link to this Joy Mech Fight japanese fansite - www.geocities.jp/achilleus_14/joy0.htmlDon't know if you people already knew about it, but since i haven't seen it mentioned anywhere... Anyway, great site, quite readable even with only online(machine) translators - has all of the move variants (there's a sukapon one you gotta try, very awesome)! JMF - serious contender for the "best pre 32-bit era fighter ever" award?

HOLY SHIT! GREATEST SITE EVER!
Thanks for the url. I'll be certain to put that into my revision of the piece.
Greatest pre-32-bit era fighter? It's pretty damn good, regardless.

Hey, archonn, you still here? Discoalucard, were those screenshots that I sent in good, or were they cropped poorly? Getting back to JMF, I just found this site here that has sprites that were left in the game, but were never actually made into any characters. There is a character that looks like a pretty standard robot, but another that looks like a clown. It's a damn shame those didn't make the final version of the game. Also, this maniac at this forum is making a rom hack of Joy Mecha Fight with all the playable characters changed to members of that forum. I'll post it here if he ever finishes it. Joy Mecha Fight YouTube videos, last 17 are mostly low quality, first nine are probably the best: Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)Joy Mecha Fight match video (YouTube)

When/if you get around to putting up the boss profiles and changing the last sentence of Sasuke's character profile, you should probably also make a couple other slight modifications. Third from last paragraph, second from last sentence: "Otherwise, it's relatively well balanced, but the area bosses are perhaps a bit over-powered, due to them doing more damage with their moves." I have been trying to tier the game for my FAQ, and I realized that the first three stage bosses are actually about mid-tier. However, the last guy is absolutely out of control. So here's a more accurate version of the sentence: "Otherwise, it's relatively well balanced, except for Houou, who is WAY over-powered." Also, my names for the characters were based on the rom translation. I believe that Blaze should actually be called Kaen. A few times during the write up I refered to "area bosses". That's kind of awkward wording, so it might be best to change every mention of "area bosses" to "stage bosses". The mentions of "area bosses" appear in the paragraph above the character profiles, and the character profiles for Dachon, Ra, Garborg, and Houou. The second sentence in the second to last paragraph begin with "Each of the combatants in the fourth area...". The "area" in that sentence should be changed to "stage". I originally wrote the character profiles in the order that they encountered in story mode. However, they are not arranged like that in the character selection screen. So it might be best to put the character profiles for the four stage bosses at the end of the section for the boss profiles, which is where they are located in the character selection screen. Lastly, I found a couple other Japanese sites that at least mention Joy Mecha Fight, but only one that's really actually any good. So here is a slightly altered version of the section at the end: Japanese Joy Mecha Fight Fan Site Has the complete movesets for all 36 characters. It's entirely in Japanese, but the moves are displayed with arrows for the D-pad directions, and the letters A or B for their corresponding buttons, so it's easy to make sense of it even if you don't speak Japanese. Keeper Ken's Joy Mecha Fight Fan Site A very dedicated site, but it's entirely in Japanese. Famicom World- Joy Mecha Fight Another review. Dark Scarfy - Obscure Video Games Yet another review. MOD: Also, this should be put at the end of Blaze/Kaen's profile: "His name basically means "Blaze"." Also, I believe that Nay's name should actually be Nei.

The Japanese wiki entry on the game has finally been partially translated to English. Theres an interesting bit at the end about codes for the game. Pasted from here (emphasis is mine): When selecting a versus mode, pressing the A, B, START, and SELECT buttons together will cause characters to be selected randomly. Using this command will force the game to choose from all 36 characters, even the ones that have not been unlocked in the quest mode. The game animation changes if the A, B, START, and SELECT buttons are pressed during the staff roll which appears after beating the game at the highest difficulty level. Pressing the B and SELECT buttons together at the title screen will allow the player to access all in-game audio effects and to erase saved data.
