Twitter and LJ are pretty much all I use - everything else I find to be cumbersome and overloaded and/or just plain shitty. Those two work fine for my devices and that's good enough for me. I hate twitter. For the most part, it's the worst of Facebook with none of the good stuff (i.e., photos, networking). While you can get news feeds and stuff, mostly it's people doing a "Tim Rogers" and talking about what color the bolus of feces they just left in the toilet was, and other pointless stuff. That, and Kevin Spacey was using it during an interview on Jay Leno, so you know it's gay (and not in the positive way).

So what HTML updating needs to be done for the migration (besides maybe the ad banners)? Is there some extra code that's classicgaming-only and cannot be transfered over? It would seem to be that it would only be a copy and paste job.
EDIT: I'm gonna take a look right now.
EDIT 2: Wow. I looked at the code for the Cheetamen article and it looks incredibly clean. I just realized there are ads in it (my browser had been blocking them all along without me knowing), and they are Javascript, so that's really the only thing that needs to be removed. Hmm... unless Kurt has a copy of the original HTMLs in his HDD. That would be even less work.
Anyways, good luck with the move!

Excuse me for being a bit dense, but I've yet to read something that specifically states what's gonna happen to HG101. The site needs to be moved elsewhere, right? Makes my fear for my lousy Geocities site feel so silly by comparison. Looks like I need to whip out Website Copier as well. HG101, Castlevania Dungeon and Contra HQ will be moving to Kontek.net. I'm gonna see about purchasing some real domains for them too. So what HTML updating needs to be done for the migration (besides maybe the ad banners)? Is there some extra code that's classicgaming-only and cannot be transfered over? It would seem to be that it would only be a copy and paste job. For the most part, it's just banner code and updates to the Google ads. Nothing major, it's just tedious because there's so much to edit.

so this means lots of great collection sites are going to be left in the mist? i expect this site getting more crowded after that , which could mean a good thing (or not) ... do you need more admins? ;p

I'm sure there are macros or automated applications that can do a "Find code X, replace with code Y", maybe even already integrated in whatever web design software you use. I'll look in Dreamweaver for you.

Great. And Kurt, you can count me in for bulk code replacement if you need a hand.

I always thought of Twitter as an improved version of AIM status messages I and others leave. And frankly, I'd just rather use AIM. I use myspace (lolz) but it's almost an empty shell now 'cause most of my friends have already moved on to Facebook. So I did too. Now if I can be bothered to put up pics... ...Oh yeah, actual relevance. Thank god this place is surviving the wipe; I don't know what I'd do without it. Aside from this place, and SoR online, I haven't went to much sites on Classicgaming (though I should.) But yeah, I hate when sites from my youth die (and sometimes split into remnants that end up sucking.)

It really isn't too substantial, the problem is I'm not finding any program that really meets my needs. I need it to automatically open every HTML file in the dozens of dozens of subdirectories, and do a multi-line replacements, and the only program I found that CAN do that crashed because there were too many files.

You can't do it in sections?

But that eliminates the point of doing a global find and replace.
EDIT:
HUZZAH I found one that works. Gonna try uploading all of this stuff over to the new server and see how it all goes.

I'm going to suggest trying Notepad++ but you found something that works so never mind.
I'm sad to see sites going to the wayside and disappearing. I was talking to a few friends a few weeks back about how no on really makes anime fansites or collective fansites anymore. I can kind of understand that they are not as needed today, information on all these subjects (wikipedia, anime news network, etc) are much easier to find then in 1997 but it's still sad it was a fun part of fandom for me. Guess it's all part of the evolution of the internet though.
I have all sorts of networking accounts but the only ones I use are LJ, and facebook. Facebook is alright I like it a lot better then myspace but it really ends up being more of my friends updates of quiz they took which to be is old and annoying. But LJ used to be like that too so it might go away eventually. I still use LJ for life blogging crap and keeping in contact with some of my friends (IE Wyrdwad), Both have their good points. Who knows what will be next anyway.

The KonTek offer has officially been extended to me, so expect to see West Mansion, The Ghoul Realm and the OPCFG make the jump sometime soon.
It's a damned shame this all ended up happening, though. I remember back in 2000-2001, having a site on Classicgaming.com was actually somewhat of a prestigious thing. There was even some competition for hosting. To see it deteriorate to this point makes me sad.

The forums are on ProBoards. Anybody know which company owns ProBoards?
