I'm contemplating a lot of articles. Right now, for sure, I'm working on ICO/Shadow of the Colossus and Elemental Gearbolt, but I've also been wanting to do something else. Many times throughout arcade history, developers have made arcade beat'em ups that attempt to mimic the experience of traditional RPGs. I've been considering doing a compilation that features the following fantasy b'mups/adventure games; Cadash Dark Seal Wizard Fire (Dark Seal 2) Arabian Magic Dungeon Magic/Light Bringer Gaiapolis Crystal of Kings I know what you're saying, "What about D&D". Well, I also plan on doing a Capcom b'mups article (minus Final Fight, of course), so I'll keep those all together. If anyone has any objections to any of these or have already started doing an article for one of these games, let me know.

Take a look at the reserved stuff topic before you work on something. Somebody happens to have already called "Capcom's Other Beat-em-ups". As in everything that is not Final Fight or Godhand.

Sol Divide(?) and Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III. (Though the latter would probably be best in a Rastan Saga article if somebody's already working on it)

Sol Divide(?) and Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga Episode III. (Though the latter would probably be best in a Rastan Saga article if somebody's already working on it) The same could be said of Sol Divide. It should be clumped together in a Psikyo article. Which I wouldn't mind doing either. I haven't begun work on it, I was just contemplating it. I had figured someone would get around to it. The reserved article thread is 15 pages long, and any search in this forum involving the words "Capcom" or "beat'em up" would probably bring up half the forum's posts as a result. You'd better do a good job on Knights of the Round, or I'll have you assassinated.

I forgot a few; Magic Sword Magician Lord Crossed Swords Edit: Actually, scratch that last one. There should be a separate Crossed Swords article.

How about Black Tiger?
That one has RPG elements.

Crossed Swords sort of reminds me of The Super Spy.

Magician Lord really isn't an RPG at all. It does, however, deserve its own article also at some point.
Wonder Boy in Monster Land/World and Legend of Valkyrie both fit in here, but there's already stuff on them. But yeah, this would be an interesting idea.

None of these games are really "RPGs", but Magician Lord does feel like it's at least trying to invoke feelings of one. If you don't want me to include it, that's fine.

Some of these games are just fantasy games though, I'm not sure how they invoke RPG feelings. Arabian Magic for example is a pretty standard side-scrolling beat em up that just has an arabian theme, while Crystal of Kings is a beat em up with dragons and stuff in it. If you're going to include those you might as well include the Golden Axe games. As discoalucard mentioned Magician Lord is a sidescrolling action game, and Magic Sword is not much different. Don't you think focusing on arcade game with RPG elements (Cadash certainly, King of Dragons possibly) rather than games with the RPG feel would be more interesting? If you include Dark Seal, you must include Gauntlet.

No, I'm not including Gauntlet. It's just too old and I don't like it. I wouldn't be able to work up enough interest to write more than a few lines about it. I'll drop its name, of course, but that's as far as I go on that one.
I think you're focusing too much on the gameplay elements of RPGs, which are pretty arbitrary, and there's only a handful of arcade games that really execute them. I'm just looking for games that are like RPGs that are in beat'em up/action game form.
Arabian Magic reminds me a lot of a SFC RPG called Arabian Nights, with a little Prince of Persia thrown in for flavor.
Crystal of Kings is pure RPG conventions thrown into a beat'em up. All the characters are ripped right out of an RPG, except Cocco, who is basically Frodo from Lord of the Rings, which is where most RPGs stem from.
You're right about Golden Axe. It definitely qualifies. But shouldn't a name as established as Golden Axe have its own article? There's 4 different games and numerous ports of each game in compilations, etc.

King of Dragons, regardless of how primitive, is a Capcom beat-em-up.

What about Knights of Valour series and Oriental Legend (which I hate, but still), they play a lot like Capcom's AD&D games and have level ups etc?
They are set in Asian fantasy lands instead of western ones, though...
