Willow, this game is awesome. Me and my friend rented the movie just because the NES game was so freaking awesome. The graphics are amazing for a NES game. I remember this game was one of the first NES roms I downloaded because my friend said it was so awesome. I remember I stayed up late one hot summer night, and I played this game on my laptop, my laptop was so hot because I played it so long. I also love the music. This game is probaly a one of a kind. I really want to get a NES just to get this game and some others.

Good article. I've been a fan of the film ever since it came out, I loved the arcade game and I thought the NES game was pretty good. I remember seeing the PC game reviewed in a mag back after it came out, and always wanted to try it based on the screenshots. After reading about it now, though, I'm glad I didn't.
One major error I noticed: the proper spelling of Nokmar is Nockmaar. That should be fixed ASAP.

Man, I wrote this article, but the whole thing is brought together by Kurt's hilarious piece about the PC games. Bravo, Kurt.
Sorry about that section being so lax. I couldn't tolerate more than a few seconds of that game many years ago and I only remembered the sidescrolling parts. You apparently have a longer threshold for unbearable agony than I do.
Wish you'd have used a few more of those movie screencaps though, but ah well. It is a gaming site, after all.

I will always remember the soundtrack to this game. The town theme always sounded really familiar. What is that song?!?!?!

Sorry, they were all super dark except for that one. Have you tried them against the dark context of the site layout? They look pretty normal here;

Yeah, but the ones that were exciting, you can't make out much. I almost stuck the one in with Kilmer's grinning mug, but it looked silly.

That's why I took the shot though. I think this site does a pretty good job of maintaining a certain air of silliness.

I actually played the arcade game before viewing the film. Both are totally tops, though. I wish Willow would have become a trilogy, but... *sigh* Anyway, remind me to play more of the NES game. Seems like a fine action/adventure title.

The books that followed up the film (of which there were three: Shadow Moon, Shadow Dawn and Shadow Star - collectively known as the Chronicles of the Shadow War), aren't bad, but they lack certain elements from the film (for the most part) - namely Tir Asleen, Fin Raziel, Sorsha and Madmartigan. The lack of Madmartigan alone has convinced several people I know to steer clear of the books. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willow_%28film%29#Novels

In that one screenshot for the arcade... the one with the monster.... well.... it looks like 2 penises. I've never seen that boss. Was there anything like that in the movie?

Indeed; And if your penis looks like that, I think you may want to see a doctor, immediately. Something went terribly wrong at your bar mitsvah.

I don't know why the Willow movie didn't do so good financially. Every kid from the 80's went to see that movie and everyone that knows the movie likes it a lot.
Maybe they say it didn't do so good because it's from George Lucas (as in, it should have made more money)? Or maybe because they spent more than what they earned? Maybe they were expecting something of an Indiana Jones proportion?
