hg101.kontek.net/konamishooters/konamishooters.htmWhen I started thinking about this like five years ago (I bought a copy of Airforce Strike Delta back then specifically to grab the screenshots of the different Konami planes), I just figured there'd be a few old arcade games, along with Axelay, Crisis Force, XEXEX and a handful of games on the MSX. Yeah, no. There's a ton of old shooters in Konami's catalogue, some of which are surprisingly cool. There's a lot of borderline shooter games that I decided to cover anyway, like Time Pilot, Falsion, Gyruss, and a few others, because hey, why not. Anyway, this still isn't quite done, but I'm gonna be busy for most of the holiday weekend, so here this is. The intro is hastily written, I still need to write something about Knightmare, and there's stuff about the music in Parodius and the Konami Battle albums I want to stick in near the end.

Looking good so far. Nice to see Axelay and Crisis Force right next to each other.
Under the Airforce Strike Delta section, did you want to put in the entire name for the ship from Axelay (D-117B Axelay Stratafighter)?

I was just going by their names in the menus, but hey, why not?

This might be worth menstioning in the article. Alot of the games in this Article have Yugioh cards on them although most yugioh players do not get the references. Most of these are in the Yugioh Video games as well. Not a bad card this one. A Joke that only japanese players would understand mostly. These two cards have a combo that gives you unlimited Life points that can be used with them and Flint Lock came out over a year after Flint. Not sure if this one counts but its Unuseable in real card matches and is a tornament prize so probally under 100 exist worldwide. Its playable in some of the games though. And its my Mewtwo Post.

Most yugioh games and videogames have lots of cards based on Konami characters. Wasn't that information fixed when the PSP collection game out? And here are pics of the expanded FDS Gyruss ending: www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,6532.msg105162.html#msg105162 Also, I believe you didn't mention Air Force Delta for the GBC.

After that hilarious parody about 2 years back, it's nice to finally see an Axelay article here

Oh, thanks for bringing that up. I actually did write about it but forgot to stick it into the finalized version when I was arranging everything.

As you know, I tried to write this article like two freaking years ago, but there were just so many games that I didn't really even know where to start. Nice to see that somebody else was able to tackle it.
A few things:
1) Megazone was developed by Kosuka, not Konami (look at the 1st place score in the title screen).
2) Somebody should seriously do a seperate article for Knightmare eventually.
3) Battlantis is awesome, and you might wanna mention that the Battlantis guy is playable in Jikkyou Power Pro Wrestling '96 - Max Voltage.
4) GameFAQs claims that there's an arcade version of Sky Jaguar. This is probably bullshit, but it's worth looking into.
5) Scooter Shooter is a sack of crap.
Looking at this article reminds me of just how awesome Konami was at making these kinds of games back in the day. Knightmare, Space Manbow, Axelay, Crisis Force, XEXEX... Plus their series shooters (Parodius, Twinbee)... Easily my favorite shmup dev.

Aren't you going to include Otomedius? While I think it's rather lackluster, it's still a Konami shooter outside of their big series.

Falsion? Falcion? Falchion? What's the right title?
Already pretty extensive! I'm amazed at how Axelay and Xexex look still so good today. Many of these games I knew already, others not - Space Manbow and Crisis Force look incredible, considering their platforms.
I remember when there was an arcade cabinet of Gyruss in my town in 1986, it looked so impressive I thought it was brand new. Only much later I found out it was three years old already at the time.
