I usually listen to music in my car on shuffle, and the theme song to this came up, so it inspired me to write this article: hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/growl/growl.htmOne day on the internet, I came across like two separate articles talking about how terrible Growl was (I think one was on Sega-16). The Genesis version, maybe, but the arcade version is amazing. It's on the Taito Legends 2 pack, which it worth the $20 alone.

I stumbled upon this game knowing nothing about it on Taito Memories. Crazy stupid fun!

I'm so mad. I saw Taito Collection 2 today and I left the store without buying anything. I'm such an idiot.

Yeah, I mentioned this game in the Taito Legends 2 thread. I remembered how awesome the game was when I played it in this arcade I used to go to when I was a kid. I remembered how great the weapons were in that game. Growl is really hard so you'll need to pump in plenty of credits. Make sure you try to keep the whip at all times because it is the only weapon that attacks in front and behind at the same time and it doesn't run out of ammo. Def one of my favorite beamups.

Ahahahahaha... awesome! This was the first game I beat on the TL2 compilation! ;D It's a very fun game indeed, but I have a bit of trouble pulling off the attack+jump moves. The controls are good, but a bit stiff alongside Final Fight, IMO. And this game is a veritable quarter-muncher, as the enemies do NOT let up. Before you fight the final boss, you're being raped by THREE clones of the first boss in the game, and I found that bit absolutely impossible. Oh well... it's got its problems, but to me, it's still a really freaking fun title. I love my beat-em-ups, and even if they weren't Taito's field, they at least made this decent asskickfest. Fine article indeed! Oh, and... I'm very sure I'm not the only one who yelled out an audible "WTF!" when the final boss reared its ugly face. As if it weren't ridiculous enough that he has a tuxedo, cape, top hat, and jester's mask with the superhuman strength to lift a tank and somehow telepathically activate its turret, not to mention built-in claws, machine guns, and a rocket launcher, his true form explodes out of his back, and your perceptions of all that is reality are dashed to millions of bits. Taito, you crazy funsters.

I think the gameplay in this is quite poor, but it still is entertaining because of the violence factor and the weapons. There is a very retarded platforming level near the end which is obviously just meant to suck the player's money, and I definitely would have stopped playing there if I'd been in an arcade.

Now that you mention it, that part was absolutely horrendous. Dammit, BEU's weren't meant to be platformers! Next time I'm forced to jump a gap in a BEU is the time when I toss down my controller and quit, crying "foul" and/or "bullshit." And I just saw it mentioned in the article, alongside the fucking extended cave levels in Double Dragon. An unnecessary add-on by far, and in a game where you only get three lives and no continues, you can probably guess that I'd hate anything causing insta-death due to wonky jumping controls.

Article: "your wily foes bring out a heavily armored tank - and right before your hero concedes shameful defeat, the stirring main theme music starts up and an elephant pops out of the side of the screen, ramming into it and saving the day."
I've heard that if you have two or more players you actually have to fight the tank... Not that I've found anyone else who'd want to play this, but I read it somewhere... So you might want to try that to see if it's true.

I had a save state right before it, so I tried it with two players. It's the same as with a single player.

Hmm yeah, so it's another stupid rumor I guess. Weird that a game like this would have rumors affiliated with it... Growl's hardly Final Fantasy level in its popularity .
