Smithee! Great to have you back.
I totally get you about the dark undertones, though. Even as a kid, I felt something was off with Talespin and Darkwing Duck. I mean I liked them, especial DW for the whole Batman-thing he had going on, but they didn't quite feel like they were made for children.
Part of Talespin's problem was in how Baloo seemed to always have a foot in the grave, at least financially. I suppose it gave a ready excuse for why he got into so many zany adventures, but it also was depressing as hell. He never got anywhere, never made any progress. That's de rigueur for most people in real life, but shit. This was part of The Disney Afternoon (tm)!
Like you said for Darkwing, he also never seemed to get anywhere in life. There must have been like five episodes where he gave up on his vigilante career. I would too, if I were as ineffective as he was. I mean at least Batman gets the satisfaction of breaking bones and banging hot ladies. Then again, Batman doesn't have to deal with the fact that there's a Tyler Durden version of himself running around out there, who's infinitely cooler and more capable than he himself will ever be.
But I never really had the hots for Gadget. Sorry, you're on your own on that one.

What's pissing me off right this second is that I just have no sense of humor. I can't make a joke to save my life, and end up covering it with something that ends up being 20,000 times more offensive/aggressive than it's intended. Mind you, one time out of 20, it might actually be intended that way, but the other 95% of the time, not so much.
I think it disappoints me sometimes when people take me _too_ seriously, as it bounces back and forth between too seriously, and not seriously enough, with no middle ground.

I've had that problem about as long as i can remember, and it gets worse as i get older. Ever think of a solution that doesn't involve me avoiding people altogether lemme know. XD

Eh, Darkwing Duck was always just a goofy superhero parody to me, but in retrospect, TaleSpin had a lot of room for character development that never really got expanded on. I think the closest we ever got was Wildcat's occasional lapses into lucidity, like when he thwarted the guy who wanted to turn a "dinosaur land" into a hunting ground for the wealthy by cutting off the river that made the magic happen...and then rigged the blockage to explode after they left, bringing the place back to life. And yes, I was a Chip & Dale fan; no, I was never into Gadget, and frankly, I don't see the appeal. (For me, it was Katie Dodd, the vulpine archaeologist from the TaleSpin two-parter "For Whom the Bell Klangs." ^_^

I actually had a big crush on Zia from "The Mysterious Cities of Gold." Also, Baroness FTW.

Oddly enough, I never had (and will never have, as this ripe old age) any sort of attraction to any animated character.
Go figure.

I actually had a big crush on Zia from "The Mysterious Cities of Gold." Also, Baroness FTW. That show rocked, mainly because it had an actual ending.

You all are wrong, Swat Kats was the best show. Sure, in retrospect, it might have been a little... OK, fine, pretty damn gay, but it was just one of the many reasons the 90's kicked the shit out of the 80's in every possible way. I mean, they killed people. When you're about eight years old, that's how you know shit is awesome.
Also, I hated Talespin because it got in the way of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Feel free to crucify me. :V

Cliffhangers in media where installments take years to come out. I mean, if your weekly TV show ends on a cliffhanger, fine. But take The Darkness II, for example. The first game ends on a cliffhanger, it took five years for the sequel to come out, and it ends on a bigger cliffhanger. Plus, if it doesn't sell enough, then you never get to see that cliffhanger resolved, so it feels like holding the story hostage. And worst of all, it means that no individual entry ever feels "complete".
