Alright, this one has been sitting on my harddisk for quite a while, but I wanted to wait for the new page to keep the amount of images per page bearable.
Shmups Update (2)
Baryon
This vertical shooter has also seen a western release (don't know exactly which countries), and it's easy to see why, because it is very good. Ultrahard, though, at least to 1cc.
Fox Ranger 2
The sequel to the bad game I introduced before. This one features an extensive, fully voiced intro. The bad news: There seems to be no way to skip it. Great. The first level is a tunnel shooter, but supposedly it contains horizontal and vertical scrolling levels as well. The tunnel shooting is not bad, but not too great either. I might have messed up the setup, but the audio is very odd, the only thing that produces sound is your gun, and it sounds like a high piano tone. After the first stage opens a copy protection I don't think I have the solution to.
Into the Sun
Horizontal shooter with nice parallax effects and a quite big playing field. You have your upgradeable standard gun and an extra button for missiles. It runs very slow in my DOSBox, though, so it was pretty boring for me to play.
Izmir
An advanced Space Harrier clone. There's a bunch of weapons you can cycle through, and while most differ only in firing frequency and strength, there's also some special ones like the bombs, that are invaluable to take out turrets and the like. All powerups (ammunition and shield) is lying on the ground, which is also the most dangerous area on the screen most of the time. I made it to the first boss, but when you lose, you always start at the beginning of the (very long) stage.
Sky & Rica
One of surprisingly few cutey shooters. This is by the guys who did Lychnis, and it really shows, what with all the pastel colors and such. Once again you get to chose between a guy and a girl, but this time, there's also a two player mode. Can't hide its inspiration through Twinbee. There's a bunch of fun enemies, like a corn cob you turn into popcorn with your gun.
Zakato
Zakato is the Gundam-Style mecha you fly around in this game. And rather than scrolling automatically, it's possible to freely fly around in the levels, there's an extra key to turn around the mecha. You have to stock it up with weapons before a mission, and you need to do it right, as you can easily run out of ammunition. The music is total shit (PC Speaker), as is the rest of the game. The boss' hit points are displayed, and it would take forever to beat him. Nice concept, but the execution is as bad as it gets.
폭풍속으로 (Into the Storm)
This I couldn't quite work out. After a long search I found a single fire button, on P, but at the beginning, 3 weapon systems are chosen, and I have no idea how to access the other two.
Armageddon
I only found a demo of this game and it runs ultra-slow in DOSbox, so I can't say too much about it. It's kinda like a simplified Wing Commander, the control's feel a bit loose, but it looks like it could be fun.
Full Metal Jacket
As you can see from the screenshots, this was a demo, too (though I may be able to purchase the full game later, if and when my budget allows it), and it ran also much too slow. You control this mecha (this time its more like Battletech style), kinda like you would a character in an FPS, with strafing and the like. When you turn, the whole world rotates in 360 degrees instead of just your sprite. Could turn out to be an awesome game.
Illusion Blaze
Couldn't get access to this one, so the screens are not optimal. The OSD suggests it'd be similar to Thunder Force 3 or 4 (with the four switchable weapon types). The background in the second screenshot looks familiar, does anyone know why?
