The southwest seems to have lots of smaller chains as well. as in privately owned bussinesses with multiple locations.
The best Mexican food I;ve ever had was from a place called "La Canasta's" which is limited to 3 or 4 locations in central Arizona.
We also have a place called "Uncle Sam's" which serves everything from Hoagies, Pizza, calzones, subs, wings, burgers, ect. basically all the stuff that people eat while they ignore -insert major ballgame here-.
Small places kick ass. The problem is finding the really good places. There's a popular bar/grill round here that serves horrible mediocre burgers and hot-dogs. The only good item being the Patty-Melt.

Mostly I try to stay away from cheap American fast food Outside I like to eat in places that serve Middle East food or South American meat or the regular stuff that not-so-cheap-and-really-not-fancy-either

I don't understand why "diner" type rest'ronts always sell those little boxes of cereal. For one thing, they're typically priced approximately the same as or more than a proper sized box, and who would want cereal anyway when there is operational kitchen equipment with someone else operating it? Why even go out to eat if you want cereal? I bet you'd order a frozen Hungry Jack breakfast if you could. You truly baffle me.

I didn't know that you could, but I'm guessing it's for someone on the go (most likely a tourist) who wouldn't like to order a full english breakfast or something.

Tourists in East Haven, Connecticut? That's the most depressing thing I've read in many minutes.

Maybe just to get away from it all, or just making a quick stop while heading someplace else? Anyway, that's the only group I can think of which would ever order any of these.

I have heard Fatburger is pretty damn good, but since i've only seen those is SoCal, I am doubting they have migrated very well.
Also in SoCal they have Farmers, and Church's Chicken... there might be a reason why I don't see those in NorCal...
You guy's have Quizno's? I've eaten there so much that I can't really tell you if it is really the best fast food, but it is pretty damn good.

Quizno's is crap and overpriced. We have a local sub shop that is the best.

[quote author=joesteele board=general thread=1153420477 I've also noticed, doesn't the West Coast seem to have more chains then the East Coast does? You guys keep mentioning In and Out Burger, and all these other places, but every "obscure" chain restaurant around here that I can think of I think is on the West Coast as well.[/quote]
This is kind of a late response (since I just joined this BBS today, etc etc etc), but it depends on where you are on the WC. Southern CA is notorious for having mostly fast food and chain stores, whereas San Francisco has some damned good food (though I may be a tad biased).

I've never had Quizno's, only Subway. I loves me a sweet onion chicken teriyaki with spinach, avocadoes, olives, tomatoes, and probably one or two other things I've forgotten.
