Not all of these are out of hand, what usually happens is that source material is skillfully crafted to the point where its seen as good movie material, but then in production certain things are "updated" to fit with the current times because it's assumed the average movie goer won't "get it" otherwise. V for Vendetta comes to mind.

Quiet, youse. *spinning backhand that hits both of you on the cheeks* My bud Ryan and I would argue that it's a fine piece of cinema... but then, I haven't read the graphic novel, and that's probably quite a bit better. So... quiet, me. *self-backhand to groin*

I've read both the graphic novel and the movie, and frankly I think the movie does a fine job of converting it for cinema. Sure it's not perfect, but it's damn close.

I view them as two separate entities so they're both good in my book.

I joined this forum just to post in this thread. I stumbled across the essay on accident. Freedom Fighter is still one of my favorite games and I agreed with most of the essay. However, he says in it that you never fight on Liberty Island. If you play the game in the hardest setting and beat it, you unlock a level on Liberty Island. I don't want to spoil it but I'll just say I got some crazy chills in it when I was walking up this steep slope in the beginning of the level. This is on the PS2 version.
