Ganbare Pennant Race! has Goemon as a playable character.
There's also a team named Gyruss.

I recently beat the MSX2 Goemon and like the NES version, there are more provinces after you beat the game once. 8 provinces for the NES version and 7 for the MSX2 version.
However, unlike the NES version, all the MSX2 provinces have completely new and original levels! So there are literally 48 original levels in the game. After you beat the last province, you get the real ending.

In Goemon 3, there is apparently an extra last boss and different ending if you collect all the cat statues. I'm playing the game but the english faq is missing two statues and the Japanese pages I've found aren't really clear when translated with google.

What hidden level in Goemon 2? The hidden Hell level with Dracula in Goemon 2 SNES. It's accessed by beating the bonus rounds in one of the levels after beating the game, but the GBA port of Goemon 2 has a glitch where the bonus rounds can get caught in an infinite loop where they keep playing over and over with no way to exit out without resetting the game. I thought this was in the Goemon article, but it apparently isn't. The faq here has some information on Goemon 2's hidden level.

Thanks for the info, but I ended up doing it yesterday. I even sent a save state to kurt in hopes he takes some screens of it and puts it in the article. And holy hell, was Goemon 2 a much better game than the first one.
I'm now playing Goemon 3 and I love it. I'm going to do the secret last boss and ending thing for Goemon 3 now.
I wonder how many fans the series would have gotten if they had released all the sequels in the USA. Unfortunately, the released the more questionable ones in the USA and left the really good ones in Japan.
Don't get me wrong, I like the N64 versions. But if I could pick between those ones and the SNES sequels, I would pick the SNES sequels.
I do wonder what went through Konami's head when they decided to localize the GB one. Why didn't that line of thought creep in with the nice GBC Goemon RPGs or the really cool action one.

Unfortunately, the released the more questionable ones in the USA and left the really good ones in Japan. I disagree about the choices for US being questionable, aside from the second GB one. First SNES and the two N64 games were far from questionable choices and some of the more questionable ones like the PS2 game, the GBA new age Goemon game, and that one 3D PSX game stayed in Japan. I would have liked for the other SNES games, the GBC Goemon platformer, one of the 2D PSX games, and maybe the DS game to come here too, but I love Goemon's Great Adventure and Legend of the Mystical Ninja (though I really want to get the US SNES version so I can play a better version than the one in the GBA collection in English. No problems with importing the others since the tabs are removed from the SNES and I already have Goemon 4. A bit nervous about the language barrier in 3, though that didn't stop me from importing and beating Goemon DS and Goemon 4 SNES). I'm wondering what thought went through Konami's head when they hired KCE Nagoya to make GB games, including the second GB Goemon. They made some better stuff a bit later, but they still seemed to be one of the weaker Konami developers.

The only Goemon that could possibly edge out Goemon's Great Adventure is Goemon 4, I'd say, so nothing questionable there. The only questionable thing is why they cut out the intro for the US release. I find it questionable why most people seem to think Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is miles better than Goemon's Great Adventure, but it's still a good game and was deserving of a US release.

Oh well, maybe I'm just a sucker for old 2D games. While I really liked the N64 games, I'm completely enamored with Goemon 2 and 3 (haven't played 4 yet).

I haven't played the first N64 game yet, but I did find Goemon's Great Adventure to be one of the better games in the series. Actually, I'm not sure if I like that one or 4 better either. The DS one is odd. It has some poor use of the stylus, but it still has the fun and quirkiness the series is known for, and some fun bosses and level designs. Nice mini games too (especially the one based on Quarth). The Space Manbow teaser is evil. It shows a good MSX2 port is possible on the DS, yet there is no full version of Space Manbow on the DS. Not to mention the one level Space Manbow mini game needs the Goemon 1 and 2 GBA cart to play.

The Space Manbow in Goemon DS is not the full game? That's evil.

I never liked Goemon 3 SFC that much. It stems from bitter hatred back in the day when I paid $60 for an import cartridge and got repeatedly stumped, because I didn't know any Japanese at the time, and there were no FAQs. I love 2 and 4 though. 4 might be my favorite of the whole series.
Goemon's Great Adventure is pretty good, but I think some of the physics are a bit awkward from it having shifted to 2.5D. I really liked the first N64 game at the time but it has not aged very well at all. Great soundtracks on both accounts though.

How does 2 compare to the late release 2D PlayStation game, the one with the recycling story? I know that game is supposed to be somewhat of a rehash of 2, and it didn't impress me that much. It was definitely fun to play through, but it didn't leave a huge impression. Like... it feels derivative even without knowing what it's based on, if that makes sense. Should I expect 2 to be much better, or are my feelings on the PlayStation game a good indication of how I'd receive the SFC game?

What I disliked the most about the late PSX 2D game was the fact that the characters didn't have sprites for walking up and down the screen in adventure mode.
