Another early access free-to-play game on Steam is Spooky's House of Jump Scares: store.steampowered.com/app/356670/It starts as a light-hearted parody of horror games and after a while it becomes a horror game in its own right, with plenty of references and homages to other famous horror games. Did I say the words "horror game" often enough? Horror game. The developer made other little games mixing cute and creepy, and subverting expectations; I'll say, let's keep an eye on him.

Mystik Belle looks like fun on a bun
It's apparently inspired by old platform adventure games, like Dizzy and Slightly Magic.

Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Dragonfall are on sale on Steam for megacheap through this Sunday! store.steampowered.com/app/234650/If you like tactical RPGs, XCOM, cyberpunk, the Shadowrun tabletop game, or old Black Isle sandbox RPGs like Fallout then they're both well worth getting at this price. If you must get only one, though, get Dragonfall---the gameplay and level design are much better. Returns isn't BAD, just somewhat of a conservative effort---you proceed nonlinearly through a linear sequence of maps and your team customization is somewhat limited, but it's still a measly $2 for some tactical RPG fun and some amusing nods to the old SNES/Genesis Shadowrun video games, so at this price you might as well just get both if you get at least one.

I thought so too, until I read this guy's review and saw his video: the game DOES have lots of good points (I love the art style and size of the sprites relative to screen size) but the f*cking item management "system" seems infuriating. hours of backtracking to figure out "where did I put that g*ddamn ______ that I now need, FUUUUU---". just.. watch that video. the game does seem to have potential, but entire key mechanics need to be rethought and redesigned before I'm interested. it's a big bummer since it did look SO FUN. this is pure conjecture, but the root problem seems to have come down to (more or less) inexperienced devs who had a lot of ideas and were unwilling to modify them as design progressed and proved them unworkable. also, it's obvious from gameplay footage the game has built-in 360 gamepad support... so the fact that a few more of the face buttons aren't used for the various systems in place is mind-boggling.

Yes, so inexperienced they have over a decade of experience in the games industry! More importantly, the trailer for the game outright states that it's a fusion of metroidvania and classic adventure games such as the Dizzy series. That doesn't excuse bad design necessarily, and lord knows that Dizzy style games aren't for everyone, but I'm not sure what you were expecting?

Oh wow that's an interesting resumé. I thought there was something Monster Tale-esque about this ( not an exactly flawless game itself).

www.beadybox.com/falafel/A very nice and free platform game that just got released few days ago with likeable Game Boy feeling (excluding the soundtrack which is still awesome). Now if only I could turn the game's resolution to full screen....

Tried this at E3, was generally creeped out. Really atmospheric occulus rift game.
Also, Chambara a fun split screen spy vs spy game. For you screenlookers you can close your 'eyes'.

Royals is a free, surprisingly deep micro game. I loved the AppleII inspiried look of it. At first, you have no idea how to play, and there are no instructions. But by trial and error, it is possible to understand quickly. It has also some rougelike elements, and a playthrough can be very quick. ashervo.itch.io/royals
