I did use some of it. The fact is, there's just WAY too many cameos to list them all, so I just picked the major ones or ones that I felt were the most interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those Airforce Delta Storm screens though, especially of all of the other Konami ships. I can get you some high-quality screen grabs of the Vic Viper for the article, but I never unlocked the other planes.

You should mention that the Guard shield in Gradius Gaiden allows you to collide with terrain and not die. That surprised the hell out of me when I played Gaiden.

My introduction to the series was with Nemesis on the Gameboy. It was also one of my first Gameboy games but there's no mention of it in the article. What gives?

Excellent artictle about the greatest shooting game series (after Parodius of course!)
The only thing I am missing are the other Gradius type shooters by Konami, like Xexex and Space Manbow! That last game is my absolute favorite for the MSX system. In my opinion it's even better than Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. If you want to add SM and need material, like scans, music or screens, just let me know!

There's an unreleased game called "vic viper" for the arcade... There doesn't seem to be much information and the prototype ROM hasn't been dumped... But you might want to mention it? Though besides for being a F-Zero racing game featuring Konami ships there's not much to talk about, but maybe Konami Krazy Racers took the idea of it.

Good stuff. Just jumped into this forum, not to mention this thread, and wanted to mention that the Japanese Famicom version of Salamander allowed 3 options at the same time.
Also, Aria of Sorrow's Legion soul could basically be considered an option + cyclon laser combo, though to acquire it, you have to destroy all of its parts instead of destroying its core while any parts of its exterior still exist.

Took me some time, but I finally finished this giant-sized article. Excellent, thorough read, well done. :) Even though I stink at the series (I don't consider myself great at shooters in general, nevermind tough-as-nails horizontals; I've only beaten III on SNES and even then it was on an easy setting), it inspired me to pull out my Gradius Collection again. I barely got anywhere in the games when I first tried the compilation I got creamed so bad, but I did better this time around. I really love all the creativity shown in the level designs of Gaiden. Am I the only one that thinks Gradius IV is really fugly, though? It looks a little better in motion than in the screens, but it still comes off more like a fan-made tribute to Gradius than something that a company would officially put out. I'll take the crisp 2D graphics of II and III or the slightly-blurry-but-detailed graphics of Gaiden any day.

If you ask me Gradius IV is the worst game of the series. I don't like anything about it other than it's Gradius.

Those pre-rendered explosions in Gradius IV made me think of Mortal Kombat in space. I cannot believe that was a Gradius game.

Gradius IV didn't even have the edit mode from the GAME BEFORE. Ugh. I keep on finding out new ways to hate that game.
The game before, however, makes me want to rip my hair out when playing it. I've beaten the arcade version ONCE. Twisted miracle and lots of quarters.

Wait a second... On the article it says this: "There was a special version released for the Famicom in Japan, called Gradius Archimedes Hen. This is a special promotion cartridge that was a tie-in with a ramen company. It's the same game, but all of the power up orbs have been replaced by floating bowls of noodles. This also appeared as a .Vs cabinet in the arcades, and saw in release in Japan for the Gameboy Advance under the Famicom Mini label." I checked multiple lists with all the Famicom Mini games and there is no version of that special Archimedes Hen version. I really doubt that Konami would release that special version again considering they would have to get the rights to do so. And even if it meant that there was a Famicom Mini version of Gradius, then I didn't see one of that either. Here's a complete list of all the FM releases and Gradius is nowhere to be found: releases.pocketheaven.com/?section=dupecheck_resultsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famicom_MiniKind of strange Konami released a FM of Goemon and not Gradius.
