Streets of Rage 2 also appears on the DC Sega Smash Pack, but it's a port that (like everything else on that accursed disk) is better left unmentioned and forgotten forever.
Thank God for the Virtual Console.

Oh, man, I love this series... though, I must say that the nerfing of SoR3 is one of the least forgivable Japan-to-America translations in the history of forever. But at least the greatness of the first two games more than makes up for that mistake. Nice work on this, I say. Also, I thought we already had a Golden Axe article? Bah, whatever. S'long as it's in the process of being made.

Just wanted to remind you that the Bare Knuckle games were included in the Japanese version of Sonic Gems Collection for the Gamecube. And PS2. In addition, BKI and II received a separate button for the back attack. Back in 1993, SOR3 was one of my most anticipated games of all time and no, it didn't let me down (either version). It's still the pinnacle of traditional non-juggle-based beat-em-ups IMO.

I discovered this while playing SOR3 back in the days, you might want to add it: In SOR3, if you have a 6 button controller, there's a way to perform all the special moves (the ones you need stars for) whenever you want, independently of your ranking. Hold down the X button and enter the following joystick motions for the 3 different moves:
-Special 1: Tap forward twice -Special 2: QCF -Special 3: HCF
Release X button after the character performs the special, and hold it down again for the next special (a second special won't come out if you are still holding down X from the first time).
You are welcome.

Actually, you don't need to hold X down; you can just tap it once and then perform the motion. While the free 1-star special is always f,f, the free 2&3-star specials are different for each character (2 different directions for the 2-star and 3 different directions for the 3-star). The exact combinations can be found in most SOR3 FAQs.
And that reminds me to mention that there's a torrent floating around from last month that contains quite a few beta versions of SOR3, with varying levels of change from BKIII (mostly very minor though).

Yeah, that one was already covered in the article.

I happened to discover them back in the mid-nineties by myself, but never actually went back and tried them again until yesterday. I remember thinking I had found some kind of bug in the game.

SoR 2 is the best. The music is still stuck in my head.

The title for SoR 3 just says Bare Knuckle III, instead of Streets of Rage 3/Bare Knuckle III.
In the second to last paragraph of the section about SoR 1 you put in a comment about the ending. That really doesn't have anything to do with the rest of that paragraph, so it might work better if you make that part (beginning with "Plus it has an awesome option at the end of the game...") a seperate paragraph. You could change the first sentence of it to something like "There's also an awesome option at the end of the game where Mr. X will actually give you an offer to join him in taking over the city."

Some things I should mention: - The stationary and forward-aiming crowd control moves in SOR3 were in SOR2 as well.
- The "martial artist named Shiva" mentioned in the section for SOR3 was the penultimate boss in SOR2. He also appears a few times in SOR3 besides being a hidden character: once as the boss of Round 1, and another as the final boss of the bad ending.
- Roo is also a sub-boss in Round 2 of SOR3, accompanied by a guy named Bruce with a whip who makes him fight you. If you defeat Bruce first, Roo flees and will appear in the character selection when you continue.
- Most of the enemies and items in BK3 had their names changed in SOR3.
Other than that, nice work! Love this series.

The stationary and forward-aiming crowd control moves in SOR3 were in SOR2 as well. MOD: This could be fixed by deleting the sentence " Also, each character has two crowd control moves this time out - generally one that's best for when you're swarmed, and another that's great for taking on large groups (or bosses) in front of you." from the third paragraph in SoR 3, and changing the sentence " Instead of the fire bomb from the original, each character has their own Final Fight-style crowd control move that's performed at the cost of a little of your health." from the second paragraph about SoR 2 to "Instead of the fire bomb from the original, each character has two of their own Final Fight-style crowd control move s that are performed at the cost of a little of your health. Never said that he wasn't. Again. Doesn't really seem relevant. Only a few did, really. Also doesn't seem relevant.
