You know, I got the Japanese version of this game years ago because it was dirt cheap, and I couldn't figure out what the hell I was doing. I got the English version about a year ago, sans manual and...I'm still lost.
Yesterday I picked up the Sega Ages 2500 version of Dragon Force because it was right in front of me, and because I could. Now I own this game three times (two in foreign languages) and I have no idea what the hell is going on. The FAQs I've read are of no help. So what's the basic idea behind this game? What are the advantages of formations or troop types or whatever?
help?

The troop types form a complex system of rock-paper-scissors. There was a chart in the English manual, but I'm sure the FAQ's have a copy somewhere. As for formations, it's about what works best for a particular troop type. For example, you want a formation that puts all your units far into the back if you're using mages or archers.
As for the point of the game... you need to take over every country. Then, like all video games, the real enemy is exposed. You then unlock some super items and go off to the final fight.
