Yes, post a tune - any VG tune - that you REALLY like, and write something about it. I'll start with one of my all-time favourites. It's from Brainlord (SNES). Also, it's excellent - almost reminds me of Opposing Bloodlines from Castlevania, except it doesn't really... But I could totally see it as a stage 1 theme for a Castlevania game.. In a way. Though maybe not quite.
Whatever! I love it nevertheless. ;D

All the music in this game is excellent, much of it giving off a clear cartoon bumper music vibe which fits in well with the style of the game.
The boss music however, is rather menacing. I love the way it slowly almost lurches in, as though to bring forth a menacing dread -- used in a couple of times as the boss is entering the stage before attacking. It doesn't take itself too seriously, though. While it builds up the dramatic tension a lot, it releases to a horn solo that borders on the upbeat and silly. It's still intense, most certainly; it's just not trying to be overly dramatic all the time.
It's been a fairly significant influence on my work.

I recently got interested in Amiga games again so I started emulating some of its more popular titles. Cannon Fodder is no new game to me, as I've long owned its DOS version. However, not until playing this port, I realized how awesome this game is, and I knew that right from the intro.
The intro song is really catchy and funny. Its like Amiga saying "Let me show you how we do things downtown". DOS version did not have this (naturally, considering the computer power at that time), although my version has a 3D intro (which was also in 3DO version. Nothing spectacular really).
So lets all sit back and sing along! War has never been so much fun!

Although I may wax poetic about the old Yamaha FM chips, the Commodore's SID chip is the king of programmable sound generators, by a long shot. Quite fond of this song in particular.

At the time it came out, I was a pretty hardcore Nintendo partisan (in my defense, I was also in middle school), but I've since come to appreciate the Phantasy Star series.
4 in particular was head and shoulders above the rest of the series, and it had some really excellent music to boot:

In context I wasn't very fond of most of the music in the game. They're all very nice compositions, but for an action game like Castlevania, something a bit more driving (i.e., gothic rock with funk influences) is more like what I expect. A good deal of it is worth listening to on its own; I wish there were more remixes of it, though, because I'm not sure the SNES can do a lot of the songs justice.
It was nice to have something that wasn't the usual vi-V-IV-III sort of chord progression, though. That does get a little old after a while.
What's weird is how a lot of the songs in that game remind me of the music from that Pitfall: Mayan Adventure game that was from way back.

I enjoy things that put me in the mood to be busy, and this song sounds alot like something you'd hear from some sort of tv program involving construction. Perfect for the game and a great tune to listen to while I want to get work done.
