I recall reading in EGM ages ago that the game was actually delayed because Jack Nicholson hit the roof when he saw the Joker cutscenes, and demanded that Sunsoft alter them to more closely resemble him. Judging by the beta vs. final comparisons, I'd say there's a good chance that story is true.
