It's called dark-half. Is a J only rpg for the SNES Instead of saving the world oyu play as the badguy, the lord of darkness. The game is much of an S/rpg like phantom brave or disgea. Complete iwht summoning monsters and all that. Cool parts like when you talk to people you steal their soul and turn them into piles of bones. Screenshots when i get home

You misspelled "Thousand Arms".[/sarcasm]
But seriously. It looks interesting, to say the least. Is there a translation out?

Well...With my various connections i have procured a complete translated version with errors only in the middle and end of the game. I'll get a working file up somewhere if anybody wants it

I own this game if you want to play the real deal Kurt, it's AWESOME. You alternate chapters playing as a lord of destruction and as a knight. The magic system is different for each. Like the first poster said, for the demon your magic effectively uses up your life, but you get it back by devouring whatever the heck you want anyway. The human hero, Roda and his companions use spellbooks and more traditional stuff and are weak because good is dumb. Never beat it, but I do believe for the final inevitable battle you get to choose which character you want to use, changing the ending. Great game overall, really good music and the graphics are somewhat reminiscent of The 7th Saga but better. I don't know if I'd say it holds a candle to Shin Megami Tensei II though.

Did you get it at Japan Game Stock? I need to make another run one of these days.
On another note, anyone played Chaos Seed for the SFC? For a long time I confused this with a PC adventure game with HR Giger designs (I think that was dark seed) but it seemed like kind of a neat action RPG. Didn't play much of it though.

Yeah the PC game with the Giger artwork for the backgrounds is Dark Seed. I've heard of Chaos Seed but never played it.
Speaking of which, check out abandonware sites for the Dark Seed games. They're both not that great but look beautiful and the first one is pretty creepy. The second one has gorgeous high resolution digitizations of Giger's artwork compared to the first but the game itself is much worse overall.

On another note, anyone played Chaos Seed for the SFC? If they did, they probably have a headache now. Here's the most complete guide I know of for the game: home.netvigator.com/~tarot/Games/Chaos1.htmlIt's basically Dungeon Keeper in China. Complete with feng shui. And of course, since it's one of Neverland's original games, it has fucking amazing music. There's even a full OST coming out soon to make up for the crappy incomplete one a decade ago, with new arrangements and the music from the Saturn version (which is odd, since I heard the Saturn music wasn't changed much). </obligatory spiel>

This game looks quite good. When I first saw you mention it I was thinking of the mediocre shmup Dangerous Seed. Honestly I think Dark Half would be a good choice eventually for an article. I was talking to Kurt and he seemed to have never heard of it until seeing the post here, and I'm the ONLY person I know personally that actually owns the game, let alone has ever spoken/known about it (which shocks me since I'm not even that big a JRPG fan). Seems like a gem that a lot of import fans have missed out on, which is bizarre given that it's made by Westone/Enix, SNES RPG game, great music and nice graphics and such. Characters that have a capacity for casual malice usually restricted to the Megami Tensei franchise. Unique structure. It's got all the elements. You'd think a game like this would get a lot of talk online. Yet it somehow slipped through the cracks. Granted there's a ton of Japanese RPGs that didn't make it to the US on the system, but this is SUCH an Enix game in its presentation that I can't believe so few people have heard of it. It's another not-quite-typical RPG from Enix, where's the small cult following? Definitely something people would be interested in checking out if an article were done. Though I haven't played through it myself in so long I'm probably not qualified. Maybe once this semester ends... Anyways this Dark Seed game looks quite awesome. I see the Saturn version for about $20 complete, worth it? Is it the SNES version with some better graphical effects? A straight port?

Interesting to see people talk about Dark Half- I remember reading about it in a Super Play magazine back in the day- probably still have the mini article somewhere... Never got around to hunting it down- the language barrier was a real turn off but this patch does sound inviting
