I actually missed out on Free Comic Book Day, though it doesn't look like there was anything I really wanted anyways.

I grabbed the new relaunch issue of Larry Hama's return to his old G.I. Joe book, Jim Shooter's Magnus and Doctor Solar, and, uh....*cough*Sonic the Hedgehog*cough*....so yeah, I was happy with my free comic books.
Also picked up vol. 3 of Invincible. Damn shame that twist was already spoiled for me.

And Secret Six continues to be the best monthly on the stands.

Black Alice (who steals the abilities of other DCU magic users) was borrowing the powers of Etrigan the Demon and making a horrible pun.

Ahhhhh, okay. Wasn't sure if they were just being oddly sexist out of nowhere.

I'd feel worse about it if the writer wasn't named Gail.

Haven't really been keeping up with DC or Marvel, but I've been looking at a couple of indie comics lately

Well, just read Siege #4 and...
Wow, that was anticlimactic. It was resolved in such a weak manner. Anyway, the end result is alright since they fucking finally killed off (heh, let's see how long it lasts) Sentry, AKA "godmodesue." About fucking time. Unfortunately, they didn't kill off Osborne like they really should have.

I can't fucking stand DC comics, or at least their editorial.
It's basically a circle-jerk run by a bunch of Silver Age fanboys.

True that. Them and anything X-Men are the best reasons why reading The Boys by Garth Ennis feels so right.

It's basically a circle-jerk run by a bunch of Silver Age fanboys. I've really been liking DC lately, and I still can't dispute this. I really like "The Boys" aside from the coloring. It's such a fun series . It's basically a circle-jerk run by a bunch of Silver Age fanboys. I've really been liking DC lately, and I still can't dispute this. Don't get me wrong; there's plenty I like about DC, but for every good thing they do it seems like DiDildo, Johns, et al find a way to deliberately piss in somebody's face. What spurred me on was this "Titans: Villains For Hire". Under normal circumstances I'd do spoiler space, but it's such a pile of shit (and a crock of shit) that I'm going to save you all the trouble and just ruin it for you. For context, here's an article that came out before the comic was released; essentially it says that although DC's probably not TRYING to be racist, they're unintentionally acting that way in how they've been sidelining/marginalizing "legacy" characters to bring their Sliver Age predecessors back into the limelight to satisfy DC editorial's fanboyism and bring things back to 1979. The reason being is that most of those "legacies" are either not white (Atom, Firestorm, two of the Green Lanterns) or are married to someone who's not white (Flash), and have either gotten shoved on a bus or... Anyway, long story short, in a recent comic they killed the living shit out of the most recent Atom, Ryan Choi. I can't say I followed his comic, but even from where I stand it was in incredibly poor taste and a throwaway death made to make Deathstroke(1) and his random group of third-rate "bad guys" look hardcore or something. This makes me worry because with the return of Ronnie Raymond during Blackest Night, they're probably going to kill off or further marginalize Jason Rusch to make way for the "REAL" Firestorm; this is sad, because Jason was a lot more interesting of a character. Anyway, I don't think it's racially motivated, but it's still something disgusting: fanboys running the asylum. DC's had a long-standing stereotype of being stuck in the past and out of touch (part of the reason they had their asses handed to them by Marvel between the mid-60's until the early 80's) and this just adds more credence to that. (1) I guess he's still got the stigma of being "that guy who picks on groups of kids".
