Hmm, looks like I made some mistake while moving stuff around, and I don't have any backups of the old versions left, so I guess now is a good time as any to put in my current files for the next massive update. Consider this my personal christmas present. www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/korea.htmFor now all company profiles are up (about a dozen without detailed game descriptions, though, only company history and screenshots), along with the first two chapters of part 2 of the main text. There are three shorter chapters left, which I aim to add in one by one in the following weeks, so hopefully the update will be ready to get spotlighted sometime in January.

The game "Nararahoppangman 2" is based on the Japanese Kids anime "Soreyuke Anpanman"
East did get a budget US release as Mythic Warriors:Battle/War for Eastland.

I played BnB Arcade quite a bit. It's a pretty straightforward Free-2-Play Bomberman clone, using water bombs instead of fire bombs. It's actually better than some official Bomberman games. I don't remember any micropayment stuff. I'm not sure how it was funded.

In case you played it online, I suppose it wasn't funded at all, being a mere (potentially illegal) emulation of the Arcade game.

Hey guys. Sorry to un-dead this thread but I was meaning to ask: What's the proper way to write "Hong Gildong-jeon" in English? Is there a better, alternative English name or title (or is it the same)? I am wondering if anyone already thought about this or if there is a consensus (maybe literary) about this character's name. Maybe "Hong Gil Dong Jeon"?

The character's name is Hong Gildong. "-jeon" is a suffix that means "story" or "tale". Wikipedia makes it the "Tale of Hong Gildong".

I see. That makes sense. BTW congrats to the people who wrote all the Korean articles. Very informative. Thanks.

Jordan Mechner justtweeted this, apparently the classic Prince of Persia has enough of a fanbase in Korea for someone to translate and publish his old journals:

TRL: The Rail Loaders was supposed to have been developed in Korea, but a Japanese company, MBA International, lists it on their site. There's also some Langrisser games for Windows listed. The notes say something about Korea, but I can't read them.

For the Langrisser games, it specifically states that MBA did "License Coordination" for the Korean ports. That note is missing for TRL, but if you play through the game, the credits consist predominantly of Soft Action staff, with only the producer and co-director being Japanese, so MBA probably played a similar role there. In case you played it online, I suppose it wasn't funded at all, being a mere (potentially illegal) emulation of the Arcade game. Interestingly, it seems like the actual programmer of the arcade games made the windows builds for BnB and Fortress 2 Blue available on the web. And yeah, I don't think he was authorized to do that...

Wow and here I was thinking almost everyone had been scraped and I check the article again for the first time in over a year and there are heaps more games added, haha.
Never knew about the sidescrolling action RPG side story game of Protocross. Looks so cool, but I checked it out and the action scenes seem pretty poorly made. I'm a fan of the genre though so I will have to give it some more time beyond just the first forest area (a screenshot on the net shows a pretty damn cool looking boss).
Another newly added game that caught my eye is the beat em up The Soul (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/part2/games-other5.htm) by Impreso Team. I'm a fanatic of the genre and finding yet another new one emerge is really exciting, unfortunately thanks to the tiny and generic title I couldn't find anything about it on the net. Do you have the game derboo and if so are you able to upload it anywhere? Or possibly you can link to Korean sites with a download? I'm all out of ideas for figuring out how to search for the game.
Also I discovered a Taiwanese DOS game called 星世紀戰將 which is a horizontal STG with RPG elements, Googling the name leads to plenty of screenshots, I was curious if this is actually a Taiwanese game or has Korean origin? The game plays pretty poor but its also really interesting with the crazy over the top visuals and huge bosses.

I own The Soul, but I have only very sporadic access to my CDs now. So it would take quite a while for me to upload anything. The game is unplayable, though. The reason there is only one in-game screenshot is that that first group of enemies just murders you without any real chance of overcoming them. If so I would totally be happy to offer you good money to buy it from you if you want to get rid of it. That also probably goes for many other games too if you have a lot of original boxed titles lying around that you don't want. Budget re-releases are the only ones I avoid. The game is unplayable, though. The reason there is only one in-game screenshot is that that first group of enemies just murders you without any real chance of overcoming them. Hahaha this only makes me more enthusiastic to try it out, gotta love wacked out bizzaro games.
