Either find an ISO of the TG16 Ys Book 1 & 2 (or find one on eBay), or see if you can hunt down Ys I & II Eternal for Windows along with the translation patch. These are the best routes - the Famicom/SMS/MSX/PC88/etc versions all pale compared to these, even though they've easy to find.

Ys Complete is indeed the PC version, should run fine on Windows 95 and above. It's a slightly enhanced version of the original Ys Eternal games, which were initially released separately.

*sigh*
There is no such thing as "Ys Complete". Eternal and Complete are two separate releases (the translation patches are only available for the Complete versions, by the way).
If you don't believe me, then you'll surely believe NightWolve, the one who translated those games with the help of Deuce?
Link: "Ys Complete" is an abomination

Hohoho! My mistake.
This is worse than the Ys/Ys debacle. Why can't bloody Falcom be less confusing? Ys I Eternal/Ys I Complete are practically the same game.

This is worse than the Ys/Ys debacle. Heh, that reminds me: Why not adding a filter to your message board which would change "Ys"s to "Ys"s? That's what Ancient Land of Ys message board does. Same method could be used for "Complete", which is actually just "Complete".

Done! And now this thread makes no sense. Hehe...
You could always bypass the filter and edit all these posts, place "Ys Eternal Complete"s back to where they belonged to. That way this thread would make sense again.

At the risk of blaspemy for many hardcore Ys fans- I got started on Ys with Ys III on the Genesis and would recommend it to others. At the time it was the one of the few action-RPG titles out there that was a 2D side scroller. Say what you will about it being the black sheep of the series, it's still a fun play, introduces elements that should be familiar to all Ys fans, and it has some of the best music composition in any game I've played.
Though if you can hunt down Ys I & II for the TG16 or Ys Eternal, do so.

Objectively, it's not too great, but it's still a LOT of fun to go charging around, and the music is awesome, even for the system.
