I got a copy of Psychonauts for PS2 just last week. I love it. It takes many elements from platform games and just adds spice to them - plus elements of adventure games, and plenty of parts that are clearly inspired by Tim Schafer's legacy (like Boyd the security guard, whose stage plays a lot like a LucasArts adventure game).
For those that haven't heard: Psychonauts is a 3D platformer where you get to dive into the minds of various troubled individuals and figure out what's going on with them. You gain extra psychic powers every so often - set things on fire, throw things around, see through other peoples' eyes, and become invisible.
The levels are quite varied as well. The first major level, Coach Oleander's Basic Braining, takes on the theme of an old war movie. Other levels have you unraveling a government conspiracy against a figure known only as the Milkman, stomping through the city of Lungfishopolis, and battling waves of enemies on top of a giant morphing cube.
The art style of the game is rather reminiscent of Jhonen Vasquez (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Invader Zim), as is the humor in some parts.
I would greatly recommend this game.

I really liked the plot/characters/visual style of Psychonauts, mostly because of the whole Tim Schafer thing. Still, I wish it was something else other than a platformer, because while the levels are well designed, the controls just don't feel smooth enough. I'm quite fussy about things like this.
If nothing else, it made me wish adventure games were still a viable genre. Dogan is one of my favorite characters from what I played. I heard the Milkman level was awesome but I never got that far. I think I stopped at the hippie chick level.

Having completed Psychonauts,I can say that was a short yet awesome experience. And yes,the Milkman level is great, and has a cool adventure-ish feel. The Hippie chick is Milla Vodello(the woman with the disco-themed brain)?

Ah, I really need to finish this game. It was very fun and I liked how the character's personality was shown through the levels (Their minds).

I've been meaning to pick this one up for a while... it's not going to turn rare anytime soon, I hope? The art style of the game is rather reminiscent of Jhonen Vasquez (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Invader Zim), as is the humor in some parts. On that note, Richard Horvitz, who provides the voice of Zim (and Daggett from the Angry Beavers) is also Raz!
