Hey guys. I'm new here and I thought I'd start by asking a simple question.
So, recently I've played Prince of Persia, Flashback, and Blackthorne, and I'm thinking of rounding out my library with Out of This World. Thing is, I'm not sure which version to get. I've considered the Sega CD version since that version also comes with Heart of the Alien, but I'm not entirely set yet.
So, what's the suggestion?

I think the Sega Cd version would be best since it has the sequel too. Or maybe you could try the Out of this World remake recently made available, for PC I think.

If you can find the Sega CD one that would be the option I would go for- I think they updated some of the music for the original on it although I might be wrong. Also if you ever thought Out of this World was tough you will probably laugh at just how easy it is to die in Heart of the Alien: water, bats- you name it and it'll probably kill you

The version of OOTW on Sega CD is, to my recollection, exactly the same as the Atari ST version (save for the fact that the colors look a bit worse). The PC "Redux" version looks nice, but it's shareware as opposed to freeware like some of the other ports (like the GBA version, which you can download from some public-domain rom sites if I remember correctly).
If you've got abandonware connections and a real Macintosh (or the resources to emulate one), the Mac version is probably the best of the original releases. It sports high-resolution graphics, much like the PC version (except minus the true-color background artwork, which is barely noticable in the first place), and sounds exactly the same as the Amiga version.

There's no "free" versions of the game, getting the full version is always illegal unless you pay for it.

I'm pretty sure that there are free versions of the game floating around somewhere. Just like how the original Marathon Trillogy was declared freeware about a year ago.
While I could be wrong. . . I doubt that Interplay will get at all steamed over it considering that they really haven't done much with the IP in over 10 years.

Isn't Interplay dead now, anyway?

Isn't Interplay dead now, anyway? I'm not entirely sure they are, but I haven't seen anything from them recently. Their last hurrah seemed to have been the various compilations they put out in the late 90s that collected classic RPGs like Bard's Tale and Might & Magic.

The 3DO version had some 3D rendered backgrounds but left the characters look the exact same. It's been years since I played it so I don't know if I would call it "better", but I remember it kinda clashing. All of the other versions are a bit more uniform.

All right. So far, it sounds like the Sega CD version is still my best bet.
BTW Discoalucard, you're Kurt Kalata, right?
How ya doin'? It's me, 8-Bit Star... the "disgruntled reviewer" who submitted some stuff to your Classic Reviews page back in the day.

I haven't played FFX-2. After the horror that was FFX and having vastly disliked just about anything Square put on the Playstation 1, I gave up on them.

You'd hate them now. I actually liked a good portion of Square's PSOne stuff, but outside of FFX and FFXII, their PS2 offerings haven't exactly been monumental.
I usually really like Final Fantasy games, and FFX-2 was really bad.
