Well... "plagarism" is rather an ugly word, but I cannot think of any other term in this case. Besides, this is really more a fun thing that a serious crime. Anyway, music in video games occasionally draw inspiration from other songs, if not just ripping them off entirely. There are a couple from SNK's files that I can draw up... Doo we have any fans of Faith No More on this board? Okay, go play King of Fighters 94 and fight the Ikari Team. Their stage takes place on Brazil. Just listen to the music, and tell me that it does not sound just a little too much like "Surprise! You're Dead!" from The Real Thing. ;D Do we have any more cases of other compositions in video game music? Many early video games used to use classic songs (like Popcorn in Pengo), but you could definitely tell that they were what they were. Still, I guess you could talk about those.

Robert Prince's soundtracks (i.e. Doom, Blake Stone, Duke Nukem 2) have their roots in actual heavy metal songs. See www.doomworld.com/linguica/doomcovers/ to see what I mean. I never would have placed it myself, except for episode 1 level 2 of Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, which is almost exactly the same as "The Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin.

It's not so much plagarism, but alot of DDR songs are based off others songs especially dj TAKA's music. Such as V (for Extreme) by dj TAKA is actually based off Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons, Concerto No. 4 in F minor, revision 297, 'Winter' " .

There's a song in Serious Sam II called Ziggurat[/i] that sounds somewhat like one of the tracks from Nerf ArenaBlast (CD track 05 according to Windows Media Player).

Doom II has a bunch of tracks that use melodies from Pantera, Black Sabbath, etc.

When composing the Turrican soundtrack,Chris Huelsbeck recycled a tune from a shoot em up named X-Out.But if I recall correctly, the tune was composed by Chris himself,so I don't know if that is exactly plagarism...

And of course, Guilty Gear X pays much homage to many music groups. Many move names and some character names relate to other bands, and it's only natural that a few compositions themselves bear semblance to kickass rock tracks. The most obvious is Led Zepplin's "Kashmir" in Potemkin's music, "Burly Heart". Venom's music, "A Solitude That Asks Nothing In Return" (one of my favorites, BTW) is reminiscent of the Napalm Death song "Breed to Breathe." And Anji's theme, "Fuu-ga", sounds like this one Motley Crue song whose name I forget. And... this one is a bit of a stretch, but the GGX version of "Make Yourself," Axl's music, has a piano intro that kinda reminds me of "Right Now" by Van Halen. Good stuff so far, dudes!

In Breath of Fire III, the forest music is the same as Chrono Trigger's.

Ah! They really do sound similar. Still, funny that I haven't noticed that before. ;D Nice find, Metrackle.
