I finished Super Turrican the other day and like I wrote in another thread, I found the game to be a bit underwhelming. I checked out Factor 5's official website and funny enough, it turns out that they had to cut out quite a bit of the game. Apparently they programmed over 6 Megabits of data for the game, but were forced to cut out at least one stage and a feature of the freeze beam, along with several enemies. The commentary on the site is an interesting read. www.factor5.de/secrets_super_turrican.shtml
Super Turrican was pretty butchered. The first two levels are excellent, but the third level sucks and the last level is just, pound for pound, the fourth level of Turrican 3/Mega Turrican. Quite the ripoff if you ask me. Super Turrican 2, even though less Turrican-like than all previous installments, is a game I like more because all of its content is at least original.

Yeah, but Super Turrican was made at the same time as Mega Turrican according to the links posted on my original post. In fact, the Super NES version came out first in 1993, while the Mega Drive one came out in 1994. For all we know, the level might have as well been designed for the Super NES version in mind. I'm willing to try out the other games in the series, at least Super Turrican 2 (seeing how I don't have an Amiga or a Genesis, and the NES version was PAL only). The original Super Turrican wasn't bad, but it was obviously released incomplete, and I'm hoping Super Turrican 2 will be a lot better.
Is there any difference between completing Super Turrican normally and completing it with all the diamonds and 1-ups collected?

Yeah, but Universal Soldier on the Genesis was made by Accolade, the same people that made that horrible Genesis port of Double Dragon. Mega Turrican was made by Factor 5, the developers of the Amiga games. Super Turrican is underwhelming, but not too bad.
Yeah, you really can't go wrong with Mega Turrican and Super Turrican 2. Super Turrican is good, but with the caveats mentioned above. And avoid the Genesis / Megadrive port of Turrican 1 at all costs, a horrible hack-job.
