Was browsing RPGFan.com and caught this link here: www.rpgfan.com/news/2006/1242.htmlBesides having news on the new Castlevania game, which I imagine will end up coming up in spades on Kurt's other site, it offers hope of Ys: Oath in Felghana possibly making it stateside, albiet a slim one. While I sometimes doubt the merits of online petitions (I've only signed one and have no clue how to make them), mayhaps this could be a good time for them in an effort to push Konami to publish this game? Thoughts?

I would love to see an official translation of the game- its one of the best of the series in my opinion and the re-recorded soundtrack is absolutely amazing. I just can't see it happening, Ys VI bombed outside of Japan as far as I am aware

After what Konami did with The Ark of Napishtim, I'll rather wait for the unofficial translation patch for The Oath in Felghana for PC, especially when I already own the PC version. At least that will happen sometime this year and will be translated by real Ys fans, unless Konami decides to do something from preventing that happening.

Bit right? I was just wondering why MP83 made it sound like Konami had horribly screwed over the Ark of Napishtim (finally learned how to spell it!)

They replaced the sprites with polyonal characters. I was okay with this. Also, the voice acting is bad. Like, monstrously bad.
Generally, though, it's regarded by fans as kind of a mediocre port. The load times are fine, but the PS2 version is locked around 30 FPS, which is decent for a console game but definitely a step back from the smoother PC version. Plus the character portraits are hideously low res. Still, it's better than most ports (i.e. many first person shooters.)

Heh, just realize that Naphishtim is the guy who built the Ark in the babylon's flood story, and the name of the game is The Ark of Naphishtim ^^;

What Kurt listed up there are the exact changes from the PC version, forgetting only about the new CGI videos. I don't mind the polygonal characters and voice acting myself, but the rest of the aspects made this a less better than the PC version. Overall it's a good port (hey, they even included a selectable 60Hz mode for the PAL version, something that Square-Enix would never do), but I prefer the original game over this, and soon it can be played in English as well, thanks to NightWolve and Deuce. nick.serveblog.net/forums/index.php?topic=8.msg74#msg74

You can activiate the PC Mode to get rid of the CGI though.
Also, they took out the blood/gore on the console ports. Which was totally unecessary to begin with. but pretty funny.

Well, they mixed up the cheat codes in the pal version and have yet to relese the codes, so it's still no good for us europians who wan't the original PC Mode with the superior voice acting. So, I'm either going to wait for those codes or I'm downloading the PC version.

Heh, I thought I forgot about something. Yes, it was totally unnecessary to remove them. As for activating the PC mode to get rid of the CGI: Do you know what the code is for the PAL version? All the codes were changed for some reason and Konami hasn't posted ANY of them on their European website, beside the master code. I also know that Konami of Europe has removed some of the "cheats" from the PAL version. Heard rumors of Japanese speech being replaced with German. Damn them! Edit: How about updating your Ys article with the differences between NTSC and PAL versions of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (PS2)?

What?!? That really sucks.
Arguably though, the Japanese voice acting isn't much better. Silence is preferable in both games.

I actually liked the English Ys 6 voice acting overall. It's just wildly inconsistent. Raba, Rose and several of the other characters are flawless, to the point where I like them more than the Japanese voice actors. The bad ones however are SOO bad that they really drag the whole thing down, it's a shame.

I tried writing into one of those UK based cheats magazines requesting they get the actual PAL codes for Ys:VI however they never printed anything- guess the game is too old now to warrant attention... I am dying to play it in PC mode too... Anyone got any ideas how to get cheat code info from Konami?
