I think I'll just skip this generation. Frankly, I'm running out of wall sockets and AV ports, and yet I still play my old systems too much to want to unhook them.
If I went with anyone though, it would probably be Nintendo, since they still have the ball on gaming while Sony and Microsoft are all about turning games into movies.

Agreed, though I actually am a big fan of the direction Microsoft has gone in with the 360. The double pronged attack of making the development kit as easy to use as possible combined with wanting to improve the graphics in ways that MATTER artistically (better framerates, more dynamic lighting, smoother animation, more emphasis on the music, etc.) instead of just upping the number of polygons like Sony focused on for the PS2 and now for the PS3. It's a stupid mistake on Sony's part since the minute a new method for lighting or texturing or anything else comes out, you're system is suddenly in last place from a graphical standpoint anyway.
I just wish the 360 would get some more Japanese games on it. The number on the original XBox is small but the games Sega brought over alone like Otogi and Panzer Dragoon are so good they make it worthwhile. Looking forward to trying the Lost Planet demo when it finishes downloading.
The Wii is a shoe-in, I'll be buying that on launch. Unless I find out that you can also download the Japanese virtual console games instead of just US ones, then I'll try to get one BEFORE launch.

I'm ashamed to say that I never got me a GameCube. I wanna repay Nintendo by getting me a Wii at release and getting as many of GameCube's masterpieces as I can muster, before actually moving on to the Wii's games (my first target will be Metroid: Prime, I WANT TO SAY I'VE LIVED!!). Getting legit copies of older games is definetely a plus.
If I can afford it, I'll be getting me an Xbox 360; for DOA, and Burnout.

The cool thing about the Gamecube is that many of the best titles on the system are really common and available sealed for $10, $19.99 at most. This year is a great time to start getting Gamecube games.
Which version of Twilight Princess will you be getting though? I'm planning on grabbing both since I'll have enough time to save up the money.

Forgot to mention: need...GameCube...controller.

Bleh, sadly the GC stuff is still super expensive over here...you are talking about $60 for a second hand game on the most part- which is taking the p*ss a little, especially when some of these games are 2 years old!

Found a copy of Metroid: Prime for about $30 or less, I've yet to buy it, though.

Geez, you can get complete copies of Metroid Prime here for like $5.
It's worth any price though, definitely the best game on the system.

I'm the classic Nintendo fan boy, so I'll be getting a Wii at launch. I had a reservation for "Revolution" at a Gamestop for about a year now, not an official one but I know the manager and he took down names on a note pad and filed it for future reference. I'd love to get a PS3 but the price is just too steep for a college kid that only works summers and spends all his money on art supplies. I will say the PS3 will be mine when FFXIII arrives, as well as RE5 because I heart zombies. Also looking forward to the next DDR, so until firm release dates are set for those games the PS3 shall wait.

I'm probably the only person here who didn't like Metroid Prime.
I found that the best game on the 'Cube was Smash Bros. Melee, personally.

Hah. 250 for a Wii? Sold. Seriously, it has the best game lineup of the systems so far, and so what if its not the most powerful graphically? As long as the games kick, it has my full support.

I admit: I'm cheap, and over here, the kind of money you'd have to pay for a PS3 could buy a very decent PC. Also, emulation on a console ftw. I think it was mostly Sega's idea, though, they've always been very supportive of emulation.

That has allready been proven as a false rumor. And even if they'd want to, ownership laws would hinder them.
