This is something I was thinking about today- even with some of the more addictive games I have played recently I still haven't felt absolutely passionate about a game recently. By passionate I mean being utterly enthralled by it- not being able to stop thinking about it, not wanting it to end, not being able to put it down and absolutely wanting to tell everyone about it. The closest I have gotten to that in a while was probably with Shadow of the Colossus but even by the end of it I was like "ah, thats that over I guess" and haven't given it much second thought. I am worried that maybe its down to over-playing games as of late. I took a 2 year long hiatus a few years back and upon returning to gaming was utterly hooked by Pikmin, but since then nothings quite blown me away as much as I would have hoped... Is it the fact I have been gaming the better part of my life? Lets hear your thoughts, your on this forum so I expect some good answers

Super Smash Bros Melee. I absolutely would not stop until I unlocked every last gadget and extra character. (I'm gonna end up doing it again once I get my hands on a new Gamecube...)

Probably Half Life 2. It was the last game that really REALLY grabbed me. Before then, Killer7.

Psychonauts. I played it nonstop from begining to the end in about 5 days, and was already considering a second go when I finished it. Before that, maby god of war. Alltough It doesent warant a second playtrough, the game was a blast overall. (have to try out Rygar soon). I am now playing both Stella Deus and Soul Calibur III, and while they are both great games, im not that passionate about them as some parts of them are kind of a choir. Before that I was playing Viewtiful Joe, but called it quits after dying on my tenth try on the final boss.

Katamari Damacy. It was something I had never experienced before and was almost as fun as the first time I played Jet Grind Radio (my absolute favorite game of all time). I bought it on a Saturday and played it the entire day without breaks. It was ridiculously good. If there's one game I'm overly passionate about and always play, it's DDR. I practice as much as I can. Sometimes for several hours at a time.

Suikoden 3 The story, the gameplay, the atmosphere, the connections to the old games, everthing (except for the music) grabbed me so strong until the end. I think it's the best RPG of this generation.
Other games in this generation that really grabbed are Shadow Of The Colossus, Disgaea, Devil May Cry 3, Metroid Prime, GGX2, Zelda Wind Waker and... Thats it, I think.

Advance Wars - Dual Strike was the last game that grabbed me by the throat, anyone who played it knows why.

Heh... that'd be Phoenix Wright for me. I'm still absolutely enamored with the game, even if I have thoroughly been through all five cases. But ya know, I just want to leap up in public and yell "OBJECTION!" with all of my fiber. And yes, I am absolutely super-hyper for PW2. Too bad that it looks like it really will be released in early 2007 instead of Oct. 2006... by the time it gets released, I will have a LOT of schoolwork to do. Oh well... at least it's even coming to America period. And if they're putting that extra time to use to design a DS-only fifth case like its predecessor... I'll complain much less. ;D

Probably Megaten Nocturne. I mean, I went through all the trouble to obsessively fuse monsters for specfic skills and level up to 99 so I could see the True Demon ending.
Which, by the way, was a huge anticlimax.

Well, I could answer this question in three different ways: the most recently played, the most recently played for the first time, or the most recent released.
As for what I just played, last night I finished what was probably my 5th or so play through of Wonder Project J2. The game just makes me want to cry, both over the story and characters while playing and over the fact that I'm done with it once again. It's just such a special little series, having only two games in the mid-90s and now practically lost to time. If I ever end up making games, I can only hope mine are a fraction as good. Heck, "good" is an understatement; Wonder Project J2 is a magical experience for me.
But I've been passionate about Wonder Project J2 for some time now, as for games that I've tried for the first time recently, TwinBee 3 made me crazy for a couple days (I played through it nearly three times in a row without turning the system off; that's unheard of for me), and for more recently released titles, Star Ocean 3, Radiata Stories, and both Katamari games all had me captured for some time. And I very eagerly await Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. :)

Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. I not only was enthralled by it and started an Ultima topic on basically every forum I went to, but for one TV show I was a fan of, I began writing a fanfic with a premise based on this game.
When I beat it, I immediately jumped into Ultima V and I can't say I've gotten bored yet.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was the last game I were passionate about (paid 89 USD for a sealed copy ). Before that it was Ys: The Oath in Felghana and will probably be again when it gets fan-translated in English this year (I yet have to finish the game on Inferno mode).

It was recent for me; I got it after the price dropped. 'Didn't want it to end, yet couldn't put it down. Oddly enough, after I completed the game I was not compelled to attempt the bonus chapter. The game had settled me into a conclusion, and I didn't feel any need to go on.
