The Legend of Xanadu 2/Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu 2 (1995) for the PC-Engine Super CD is getting an English translation patch! I've been wanting to play this in English ever since I played a bit of this on an emulator a few years back. It seemed like a fun game to me with Ys-like, bumping-into-enemies game play for the regular battles and side-scrolling boss battles. Hardcoregaming101 article on it: www.hardcoregaming101.net/xanadu/xanadu2.htmthread with news/announcement: www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,12365.html game play videos:

The amount of PC-Engine CD RPGs that were made is actually quite staggering. There are a ton of them I'd like to play in english.

Yeah, there are a metric ton of PC-Engine CD RPGs... I wish I could play them all (in English)! This is fantastic news, hopefully the translation project is seen through to the end.
Beach1, do you have a link to the project/news of the project, by any chance?

^ Here's the link to the thread on it at romhacking.net. If you go to the main page of the site, there's also an announcement there with the same info. www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,12365.html I too hope this translation is completed. The amount of PC-Engine CD RPGs that were made is actually quite staggering. There are a ton of them I'd like to play in english. Very true. The same can be said for the PS1.

Does anyone happen to know which system card is required for this game? A friend of mine has a Turbo Graphics 16 with the CD add-on, but only the first system card. I suppose that I could always just use an emulator though.

I believe the 1st system card is all that's needed to play PC Engine CD games. Super CD games require a different card. There's also an arcade system card for games like Fatal Fury Special, but I'm not sure if it's the same as the Super CD card or not.

Don't start celebrating guys. Projects like these take YEARS. Ah, you're probably right... Although I don't want to believe it. ...Still, I'm just glad there's a good chance that we'll be able to play this in English.

Big games like these take years to complete. Just remember how long Policenauts took. And I'm still waiting for Samurai Shodown RPG.

^ Well, according to the hg101 article, this one is quite a bit shorter than its predecessors which I take to mean that it isn't SUPER long. I'm guessing maybe around 25 hours to complete, maybe even shorter?
Policenauts had a TON of text. Samurai Shodown RPG, if I remember correctly from Deuce's posts on the neo-geo forum, has had its translation pretty much completed for a long time now and could have technically been released a long ago, if it weren't for some complication with the game's voices or something. I think he wanted to have the text on cue with the voices during cutscenes, or something like that (?) and that was the reason for the hold up. Plus, he has work as an Xseed freelance translator that's taking up most of his time, plus his personal life is already filled since he has a family.
It seems like the conditions for this game's translation and patch seems quite a bit better than those two other games, so far anyway. Although watch me be wrong and they run into some problem that causes the patch to hold up for a long time, lol.

PC Engine CD system cards and systems are simple to differentiate:
CD-ROM2 - any PCE CD system Super CD-ROM2 - CD-ROM2 system with Super System Card or Arcade Card Pro -OR- Super CD-ROM2 system -OR- any Duo -OR- LaserActive Arcade CD-ROM2 - CD-ROM2 system with Arcade Card Pro -OR- Super CD-ROM2 system or any Duo with Arcade Card Duo
Wikipedia seems to be incorrect on the Arcade Card use so I wanted to make things clear. Most PCE games (and most of the best) are on the Super CD-ROM2 format. The Legend of Xanadu II is definitely among the best RPGs and is fairly cheap & easy to find so hopefully, more folks can enjoy it.

Game length has nothing to do with how long a project takes. Script length does. And how easy it is to insert everything without breaking the game.
But yeah, this one seems to be easier to do. But I still don't expect it this year because something always comes up that requires more time. Remember, the people doing the project are just normal people using their free time to work on this. If something happens to one of them, the project is stopped until he comes back or a suitable replacement if found.

^ That's true. Even if we got the translation a year or so from now, I'd be pretty happy with that, I think.
