I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. It looks good! I doubt it's gonna turn into a series though. One game that sells poorly and then it's back to the Resident Evils and Devil May Crys.

It LOOKS fun. I hope Capcom don't drop this like Red Dead. It is funny saying that now given how that series turned out under Rockstar Games (GOTY 2010 anyone?). It is nice to see a new IP in the works anyway.

The creators of this game were responsible for the action hits – Resident Evil® 4 and Devil May Cry® 4. That's great. Why aren't they working on RE and DMC? Actually, that's not totally fair. I'm more wondering why they don't keep developing those franchises in house, because the outsourced entries look bugshit. I'm curious about this game, though. Especially hearing Demon's Souls mentioned cuz that game was the shit.

It turns out you will be able to climb on bosses to take them out. I think I've done that before...
Now, if the bosses have GLOWING WEAK SPOTS.... I shall not be happy.

Doesn't really look up to par with Demon's Souls (not even close, actually), but I'll wait and see. Capcom may surprise me.

I'm interested, well at least if they release a complete game at the retail price this time... Capcom's current modus operandi seems to be to release a 50% complete game and then make you buy the rest as DLC, so you'll pay triple the price for their games as opposed to other developers'.
I can already see the way it'll work; want to do something that in other games is a basic element of gameplay, like equip a new weapon, or control the camera? Yeah, we have a $5 DLC that lets you do that...

BUMPITY BUMP
So I got Dark Arisen the other day and it is GODDAMN FANTASTIC. There's tons of armors and weapons. You start off with just 3 basic classes but when you get into the capital there's some more complex ones. You can throw enemies! This is always awesome and seemingly pretty rare in games. The scenery is fantastic, the world design really impresses me. Combat is quick and smooth.
A nice highlight of the game is that the character creator is just straight fantastic and hilarious.
All in all I definitely recommend this game for people who like action RPGs.

I'm really enjoying it as well. It's a bit like a smaller skyrim but with a combat system that isn't awful. There's a heap of content and lots to see and do.

What vocation are you using? I started out with a character that went from a fighter to a warrior or whatever the class that uses 2 handers is. Quickly found that I had slightly crippled him by dumping all my money into a single sword and not having enough for armor. I ended up starting a new character as a bow/dagger thing, forget the name. Damn that class is fun. May switch over to the magick bow user later, because that seems great, then assassin.

So I heard the original release was not so hot, and Dark Arisen is good. Is there any reason to play the original one first? Like for story or whatever?

No, Dark Arisen is the exact same game, but with bonus content. It's all on one disc.

I'm using a Mystic Knight at the moment after my friend recommended one to me. Seems like a nice mix of sword and board with some decent spells and buffs.
I don't think Dragon's Dogma is a game you play for the story. It's got a very confusing opening and I really don't care one bit about the story or characters at all. It's the gameplay that is keeping me coming back, the combat and exploration is just so much fun.
My friend tells me the story in the Dark Arisen section is however an awful lot better.
