The original Trouble Witches for PC is my third favourite shmup after Ikaruga and Touhou. So you can't imagine how happy I was when I learned about the localized version for XBLA with extra stuff and keeping the original japanese voices. If you don't mind the cuteness of the game it's a must for all shmup fans.

Original mode is HARD. I'm enjoying Story Mode, though. Still, I can't shake the feeling that this is the generic version of Deathsmiles. The first stage, in particular.

Yeah, it seems like they took so much from Deathsmiles. But I'll say this, it might not be as polished as a Cave game, but it knocks the hell out of Otomedius Various. Another girlie/loli STG doesn't go totally amiss I don't think... there's certainly room for one more. My few minutes just spent with it and I enjoyed it.

Not played Otomedius series myself but it look really uncreative and without the charm of the Parodius or Twinbee series. I have Deathsmiles though the European version that had some of the lines retranslated to the US version.
This is a good game and fairly priced though it is full of typos and engrish even some on the title screen. Voice acting is really bad but funny because of it they also dont credit the English voice actors in the credits just active gaming media instead thats kinda weird.

Yeah, there's no way that the first stage of both games aren't related somehow. Guess someone at Cave had played Trouble Witches?

The only common that have Trouble Witches and Deathsmiles is that they're both horizontal side scrolling and have cute girls. The gameplay is different and I would dare to say that TW's gameplay is more enriched. They're different games but each one of them have their own value. And I love both of them. I don't know if DeathSmiles has taken any influences from Trouble Witches but it doesn't look to me. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

The first stage of both games involve a cutesy flying witch with a train being attacked in the background. That's a bit much to write off as a coincidence.

Now that you mention it DeathSmiles seems to "borrowed" lots of elements from Trouble Witches. Not so much on gameplay but mainly on the concept, the story, the characters and the levels settings. Here's a quick view in both games (spoilers alert): - Both games are all about magical girls who fight along with magical creatures and they 're after some magical crystals that can make you stronger and grand you any wishes. - In both games in the stage before the final stage you fight with the son/daughter of the final boss and after defeating them they ask you to save their mother/father which they were abused by the power of the magical crystals. - At the final battle after defeating the father/mother a monster (which is the true, final boss) is taking their place. - After beating the monster the father/mother is coming to his/her senses. - Both games are similar stages settings: a stage with a train (like Jason X mentioned), a forest stage, an ice stage, a lava stage, a dead people's stage... You were right Jason X and thanks for opening my eyes: Cave seems that not only they have played Trouble Witches but it's possible that they wanted to make a game like Trouble Witches but much darker. After all, Trouble Witches is one of the most popular shmups to the point that it was later ported to the arcades and now to X-Box 360. By the way, any infos about the Episode 2? Sorry for my bad english.

In a way, it kind of pisses me off. I know this kind of stuff happens in Japan all the time, but that doesn't make it right.

I remember Working Designs releasing a shitty localization of it for the PS1, but that's about it. It had some kind of "swap" mechanic similar to Ikaruga, but the character designs were kind of "meh". Interesting to hear that Outland might be a rip-off, though. I saw it on XBLA the other day, but the screenshots didn't really give a good feel for what the gameplay might be like.

Outland by the Demo is more like Metroid with kinda Prince of Persia Controls. You can switch colours with a button press in Silhouette Mirage you can only defflect bullets from wich side of you so just turning left can block red blue bullets and turning right blocks red bullets.
Silhouette Mirage had some stupid changes for America though such as making it 10 times harder and you unlock a easy dificulty setting after beating how does that make any sence?
If you want to look at real rip offs they exist on mostly on I phone and such devices that and Game Loft all their are just clones of other games unless their game N.O.V.A is not a rip off of Halo.

I have heard lots of people complaining about Working Design's localization of Silhouette Mirage. Apart from the difficulty which other changes did they made that ruined the original game? So that's why it was insanely hard on later stages. It was Working Design's fault. And to think of I'm fan of Working Design (mainly due to the Lunar localization which I love). Such a shame. Did they messed up other games like this? Seems I should play the original japanese version of Silhouette Mirage. As about GameLoft: kotaku.com/#!5732370/meet-the-least-imaginative-video-games-in-the-world

Picked this up on a whim after seeing the screenshots provided by the Marketplace. I gotta admit that I'm really enjoying it. I dig the scoring mechanic, and the terrible voice acting most of all.
Even after I stop playing it, things are in slow-down mode for a while. XD
