Is there anything else Falcom-related slated for the PSP this year?

A new Legend of Heroes game set in the Trails in the Sky universe, "Ao no Kiseki" -- "Trails of Blue." Supposedly their most massive game yet.

I honestly must say my enthusiasm for the NGP is limited, at this point. It looks nice enough, but having two touchscreens seems like Sony is trying to catch up with the previous generation of Nintendo handhelds. I'm pretty sure the PSP3 will have a 3D-screen. Maybe they could call it the PSP3D.

I'm not sure it's terribly fair to claim the NGP is merely cloning Nintendo with the addition of touchscreen and touchpad functionality. After all, even phones have touchscreens nowadays, and there is an increasing amount of developers for making games for said phones. Phone games are growing in sophistication too... sure, the most popular titles are things like Angry Birds, but take a look at Infinity Blade. A touchscreen/touchpad makes just makes sense, because it allows games that require touchscreen-based controls to be more easily ported to the PSP.
Touchscreens have pretty much become a standard-issue component of high-end portable electronic devices. Consumers expect their handheld toys to have a touchscreen. It's not simple a case of "me too" with the NGP's touchscreen, it's the fact that releasing a high-end handheld device that doesn't have a touchscreen would be dumb as hell.

Also, the touchpad on the back IS a pretty original idea that doesn't really mimic ANYTHING from any of Nintendo's systems. It seems like a really well thought-out idea that could potentially be implemented in some pretty creative and awesome ways, and I look forward to trying it out myself. (:
(I just hope that Sony doesn't use the touchscreen and back touchpad as excuses to forgo adding TV-out functionality to the NGP. I don't care if it might be a little awkward -- I want to play on my TV when I'm at home, dammit!)

Has the PSPgo been cracked? I didn't think it had been. And the problem with modding is that new releases are all required to use the latest firmware, so generally for a week or two after a game's been released, you can't play it on custom firmware *at all*. And that's a big problem when you're a huge PSP fan and an extremely impatient person. -Tom Not sure Sony's going to bother with more updates and not really sure how effective they'll be at this point. If they do I would rather be patient than lose the ability to play my games fullscreen on my TV with a 360 controller. Speaking of TV outs, I've heard the NGP won't have one, so guess I'll wait for the NGP Slim before buying one of those. Or NGP CFW.

Sony's going to be updating the PSP's firmware regularly until the day it's officially discontinued. I doubt that'll stop for another few YEARS, at least.
That's the rumor, but has Sony actually stated that it won't? I don't think they have. It's still an unknown at this point.

Actually, it's kind of the opposite: Sony is one of the few companies who DOESN'T region-lock downloaded material. At least, not on the PSP -- and I don't think on the PS3, either! I've played many hours of demos and PS1 classics downloaded from the Japanese PlayStation Store on my American PSP, without any modding or custom firmware or anything. All you need to do is log into PSN, and when it asks what language you speak, select 日本語 instead of English, and bam -- you'll be connected to the Japanese PlayStation Store. Signing up for an account is a slight hassle, since you need to type a valid Japanese mailing address... and you can't use non-Japanese credit cards, so you have to purchase PSN cards from sites like NCSX or Play-Asia to buy games (which actually worked out for the best in the end, since it means I'm not at all at risk of having my credit card number stolen due to the PSN hack!)... but those are the only hurdles. I can't speak for Microsoft, but I do know that Nintendo region-locks EVERYTHING, downloaded content included. Heck, the DS *wasn't* region-locked... but with the release of the DSi, surprise, now it is! And so is the 3DS, and the Wii! Compare that with the PSP and PS3, which have no region-locking whatsoever for games (aside from PS1 and PS2 games played on the PS3, anyway). I just hope Sony is smart enough to leave the NGP region-unlocked. -Tom I know thats how the PSN stores work and I never bought anything from PSN from my PSP until point cards showed up like around the time PSPGO camwe out in Europe not sure why it took them that long. I was saying all Save files for PS1/PSP/PS2 and PS3 have a Kind of Region protection on them. If you try to load say a Amercian save file on a European copy of the same game it does not reconise the save. DLC on PSN works like this too. My copy of DISSIDIA 012 that is a UK copy the start up feature that reconises your Original game save says I have no save data for because my copy of the Original is a US one. Sure with this game I can just Download a 100% completed save on Game FAQ'S and get the bonus. But with some games no one ever uploads a 100% complete save file for Europe that happened with Yugioh Tag Force 5 even though they have a save for 100% for the Japanese and US version. As for 360 only the Games on Demand games are Region locked (even if the game itself is region free on disc). A few XBLA games are can not be bought in certain countrys though eg Deadliest Warrior due to it begin to violent for Germany and Japan. Scrabble on Family games Night on 360 is the weirdest Case of this it is only availble in America (Even though all versions have Achivement listings for it begin on it : because Hasbro only own the rights to the board game in america. Though that makes me wonder why they chose that game for it and not one with no legal problems instead. But for 99% of XBLA games if you just make a account that game is sold on it will work on any 360. DLC is not region locked on 360 neither are save files. If you want the DLC for Guilty Gear 2 in Europe you have to buy it from the US or Japanese Store because the Publisher in Europe 505 games never brought the DLC out to the European store.

Wow, first I've heard of save files being compatible from one region to another. Far as I know, no other system has EVER done that... so good on Microsoft for that one, I guess!

I'm still using like 2 year old CFW for my PSP slim and let me tell you, it's not that hard to play a new game that tries forced updates. I've done it myself when I bought Tactics Ogre and Trails in the Sky - the only real downside is not being able to play the game immediately (I had to rip the ISO and patch it). It would actually be harder to do this with the PSPGo because you can't rip ISOs straight from a disc, so you'd have to wait for someone to upload it somewhere (only if you're being a nasty pirate, of course).
My friend has a PSPGo and he was unable to play Tactics Ogre as soon as I could, because the PSN store only updates once a week.
