Is it really a stereotype that black people like grapes and are afraid of ghosts? Weirdest stereotype ever.

I drink tons of grape soda and am afraid of ghosts, and I'm as white as they get. That stereotype has always baffled me, too. (:

Oh, hey, that reminds me of another bit of racism in video games: ever notice how in all the older Ghostbusters games, there were only three Ghostbusters, and they were all white? Poor Winston got no respect back then. -Tom

I think people are confusing racism, sexism and stereotypes with portraying people in a negative/positive light (and whether or not people are offended by it). Like I was saying about blacksploitation films, you can have a main character who is black (or a woman, or both *cough*Foxy Brown*), and be totally stand-up and fighting against all those things that are 'wrong with society' (drugs, gangs, etc.), and it could still be racist or sexist. You could have a game with absolutely no female characters, and it wouldn't be sexist (though it would probably be the product of a sexist industry).
Also, with regards to Super Robot Wars, I was just talking about the innuendo, often directed towards the female characters, often directed towards their bodies. Yeah, it might be no worse than typical anime cliches, but nobody said they weren't sexist either. And don't get me wrong- big breasts or skimpy clothing alone don't make a game sexist any more than having a female protagonist makes it feminist.

New Ghostbusters II for the Famicom/PAL NES and Game Boy had Winston and Louis as playable characters. It was also the only good 8-bit Ghostbusters game.

One of the stupiest changes in videogames localizations is that all female enemies in Final Fight (at least at Nintendo consoles) are replaced with male ones with the excuse that it's not appropriate to hit women. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison_%28Final_Fight%29#Censorship In that case how can she slap? Talking about gender equality... To avoid any misunderstandings, I support gender equality. However, you can't talk about gender equality when: - A man is considered as a sicking pervert when he enters womens' WC but when a woman enters the men's WC is not a big deal. - A man is considered as a molester even if he flirts a woman. - You will make a huge fuss if a woman is raped by a man but if a man is raped by a woman is not a big deal (and don't tell me there are not any cases of men being raped by women even if there are less in number). Wow, I'm actually completely shocked at how few people seem to think he's a stereotype. I don't think that they see it seriously. They just make fun of it (just like me), just like videogames fans make countless jokes about Princess Peach being a very *friendly* person. But you can't deny that Knuckles' racist stereotypes (intended or not) aren't obvious. For me it's more shocking that lots of people are talking seriously about Jynx from Pokemon being a black woman stereotype. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JynxJust because it has huge lips and black skin doesn't make it a black people stereotype for the simple reason it's a @#$%^&* Pokemon which doesn't even look so much like a human in order to consider it as a humanoid. Oh, hey, that reminds me of another bit of racism in video games: ever notice how in all the older Ghostbusters games, there were only three Ghostbusters, and they were all white? And don't forget about the computer/console port of Smash TV where the black character is turned to white one. - Super NES cover: www.chronicgames.net/images/games/snes/snes-smash-tv-box-front.jpg- Arcade screen: war3.incgamers.com/uploads/00391.SmashTV.jpg

I didn't think San Andreas was racist, either, and so does every other black person I know. If Rockstar's intent was trying to get the feel of early 90s LA gang culture as seen/inspired by hood films which were also accurate depictions of the culture like Boyz N The Hood, South Central, Juice and Menace II Society (which I firmly believe are some of the influences behind the game) they nailed it perfectly. You might as well call those movies racist too, while we're at it (which they're not.) There were some overt Colors references in there, too. San Andreas didn't capture its subject quite as thoroughly as Vice City did, but the lack of loading times and all of the gonzo stuff to do make it about equal to VC. I'd like to see a remake of VC without the loading.

Is it really a stereotype that black people like grapes and are afraid of ghosts? Weirdest stereotype ever. It's less grapes and more grape soda, or "purple drank." But then I love me some purple drank, too. It probably would've been more obvious if Knuckles' favorite fruit was watermelon. But it IS a pretty weird stereotype. Like Canadians being afraid of the dark.

Like Canadians being afraid of the dark. I can't speak for every person in America on this, but I've seen firsthand that people believe it to be grape drinks, as well as Sprite. My wife also experienced this when she worked at a movie theater in Raleigh, NC. They also say that black people have an affinity for menthol cigarettes. Still, I'd never heard of half of these things until a few years ago. Maybe it comes from growing up in a small, all-white town. We were so white, we didn't even know what stereotypes to associate with minority groups.

Poor Winston got no respect back then. -Tom This is still happening with the series in Japan. I wish this was a real game instead of some slot machine thingy instead though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HDDuWsYsK8Remember quite alot found it racist in Pokemon that everyone was white. Pokemon Battle Revolution was the first game in the series to let you chose skin colour though this was not in the Japanese version of the game. Though Finaly in Black and White not everyone was White. Though the first Black Gym leader is a Fat woman in a apron . How come in Most games the where the Second player is a recoloured sprite of the First player they are always Black instead of white like the first player?

One weird stereotype I heard from a drunken dutch tourist (which was a hilarious person to have conversation with) was that greek women have mustache. In my whole life I have met only 3-4 girls/women with mustache (and all of them were ugly of course) and one of them was a nun that was so smelly that you could literally faint. Though Finaly in Black and White not everyone was White. Though the first Black Gym leader is a Fat woman in a apron . Actually she's the second gym leader and no, she's not fat at all. On the other hand, she's very attractive (and very popular on top of that) without having daring dressing for the fanservice. And instead of having the stereotype of a sexy, exotic air-minded black woman with few clothes or a good-willed, black woman housekeper/maid/whatever she's a dynamic, wise woman who's also the director of a museum with her husband (who's a a little timid white man) working for her. And the most important? She doesn't have big lips. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/LenoraThe more you know.
